Product Description

Martin's Backpacker guitars are fully playable, compact travel guitars designed to meet the needs of musicians on the run. With a total weight of 2.5 pounds, the Backpacker guitar is lightweight and easy to carry. Ruggedly built to withstand the rigors of outdoor situations like camping, hiking and summer music festivals, you really can take one anywhere. For their size, both the original steel-string Backpacker and the newer nylon-string classical Backpacker have surprisingly rich and loud tone. Such tone is due primarily to the combination of a lightly braced solid soundboard with a solid mahogany neck, back and sides. Tuning machines on both models are the high quality chrome enclosed variety. The unique bridge on the classical model accepts either plain end or ball end classic strings. Each Backpacker guitar comes equipped with a Martin woven strap. The high quality nylon carrying bag, complete with red embroidered "C.F. Martin" logo, fits neatly in the overhead compartment onboard most airlines.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't Put the Little Guy Down, May 12, 2011
This review is from: Martin Classical Nylon Backpacker Guitar
Wow. Bought this because I am traveling abroad for a few months, and plan on living out of the ol backpack. The backpacker's guitar was a logical choice. Looks pretty weird and impossible to play without a strap. However, once you get past the awkwardness, this actually feels like a martin. While the action is a little high, the fret board feels like the martin guitars I only get to touch in the stores!! Sound is also nice, all things considered. It has a banjo-like twang, which can be odd at first, but played by the campfire the other night, and I think it added to the folky type sing along music. The best part of the Martin Backpacker is the fact that it is like a toy. I really can't put it down. I have a law exam tomorrow , and i have played for hours rather than study ... and I dont care!!

I don't know much about guitars so it was a big risk when I decided to surprise my husband with the martin backpacker but it paid off big-this is far and away the happiest he's ever been with any gift!
He plays classic guitars, (not steel string) so finding a martin with nylon was the trick

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool little guitar. ^^, October 7, 2011
By
This review is from: Martin Classical Nylon Backpacker Guitar
This guitar is really cool. It sounds pretty good for the size. It tends to be a little off though, so you will have to re-tune it often. I brought it on a backpacking trip and it was really refreshing to have some music in the middle of the wilderness. All you have to do is strap it to the outside of your pack, and you're good to go! That's why I love this little guitar: it's so easy to travel with and it's great to have in the back country. It probably doesn't deserve the full 5 stars, but it's so unique and handy, I just had to give it to 'em.
