In the 1960's, when Martin had not produced a D-45 in twenty years, Mike Longworth achieved some fame in the business of converting Martin D-28's to D-45's by adding pearl inlay. The Martin Company was sufficiently impressed to hire him and resume their own production of the legendary D-45. Mike wrote this book after twenty years of working with the Martin guitar company and the Martin family. There is no one better qualified to tell the story of one of the world's oldest musical instrument manufacturers and Mike has done an excellent job of doing just that. There are plenty of pictures in this book. Virtually every model ever produced is depicted here, but this is not a coffee-table picture book. If you're looking for a lot of full color pictures, there are others available. But if you're looking to read about the history of the Martin guitar company and the evolution of every model that they ever produced, there is no other reference work to equal this book.
