Martin Hayes is a world-class fiddle player, and every single piece on this disc is gorgeous. Hayes has a thoughtful, contemplative style that is absolutely amazing, without being the slightest bit syrupy or self-involved. (I have heard people complain that Hayes' interpretations are far too slow, but I don't find it to be a problem.) He even makes this style work well on faster pieces. I cannot possibly recommend this disc enough.

You can't go wrong with Martin. A really nice guy, and a majorly talented Irishman. This man can take any Irish tune and make it sing. His style is smooth and lyrical, it can make you feel relaxed even while you're tapping your toe to the lively jigs and reels. You feel the emotion he puts into every note he plays. His slower tunes are just awsome! He carries you along on each note, making you anticipate the next. His playing is magic. He deserves 10 stars. This CD is a great collection. I also recommend his self titled CD Martin Hayes...If you love Irish fiddle, you won't be sorry.

A masterwork from the Rasputin of the fiddle. Martin Hayes is a fantastic player, whose skill sometimes leads him (and his listeners) into an altered state. His music has a hypnotic quality, equally capable of making you want to get up and dance until your soul is in your throat, or driving you into a manic fit. They don't come much better than this. The picture on the album gives you a sense of this player's intensity and dedication.

This is a great CD of Martin Haye's beautiful fiddle playing. With minimal backup, this is pretty much a virtuoso performance. The playing is technically great and is very "mellow". So, if you are looking for a raucous display of Irish music, this is not a CD that you will want.
