5.0 out of 5 stars The Sword That Heals, October 19, 2000

This review is from: Martin Luther King Jr: Legacy of a Dream [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This film gives a vividly accurate account of the trials and tribulations of the sit-in protestors and the freedom riders. Not only does this movie give actual footage of these sometimes horrifying events, but follows some of the protestors to present day when they can reflect upon the part they played in history. This movie is extremely interesting because not only does it cover the well known speeches of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., such as the "I Have A Dream" speech, but also rarely seen interviews, for example, from "Meet The Press". I recommend this film to anyone who wants an accurate and realistic account of desegragation in the south. If you find this film interesting I also reccommend "Why We Can't Wait" by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., "The Children" by David Halberstam, and the movie, "The Road to Freedom: The Vernon Johns Story".

I teach a communications class to high school freshmen. It's a great video, very concise. It can be hard to keep the attention of a 15 year old, but this video does just that.

This is a great classroom video
It is short and to the point.. it gives a good overview of the times.
James Earl Jones is the perfect narrator. It starts with the line "Behold here comes the dreamer, let us slay him and see what becomes of his dreams"......
It is a great aide to for an American Literature class.
