Growing up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the late '60s and early '70s, it was an annual ritual for our grade school classes to go over to our church (Atonement Lutheran) to watch the "Martin Luther film" just before Reformation Day on October 31st. Back then, the film was rented on giant reels. The memories of those days and the images from the film remain clear many years later, and I am pleased that it exists on DVD, although it does need to be re-mastered. The historical accuracy is reasonably good--moreso than some of the more recent Luther films, which have taken liberties in order to render the story line more appealing to today's "excitement-based" audiences. For those who want a no-nonsense, "real" look at the historical Martin Luther, this film is surely recommended.

I saw this movie in the 1950's and just saw it again. It is a classic in every way. But what bugs me is why they don't remaster it. The dumbest movies are remastered, yet, this one remains as original. Still, it is a must see, and deserves 5 stars even with the flaws.

A must see. When a movie lasts over 50 YEARS what can you say. I love old movies and I loved this film especially. (Elaine of FAITHFILMS)

The definitive classic. I really love this version.. The modern versions are great as well, but this version just seems to be a bit more cerebral in the theological discussions.

Thank God for Martin Luther and the protestant reformation. For over 1400 years the church has been in the dark ages with the catholic church ruling. Jesus and his disciples reigned for about 70 a.d. grievious wolves came in not sparing the flock.carnal man came in with false doctrins and false teachers. Turning the truth of God into a lie.John Wycliff is called the morning star of the reformanation.He is the first one to translate the bible into english praise God. John Wycliffe Taught the same thing Martin Luther taught. The just shall live by faith in Christ Jesus. All the money in the world can"t pay for your souls salvation. Only repentence, confessing your sins,confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus Christ that God raised him from the dead thou shalt be saved. I have seen the black and white version and the color version.I love the black and white as much as the color. Get both.

Glosses over much of Luther's life but does hit the high points. Great classic film. Well remastered. The quality was good.

The product arrived on time and in good condition. It was a gift for my husband and he really liked it. He says it was an excellent portrayal of Martin Luther's struggle for truth.
