Product Description

Who said you couldn't get a great guitar, at an awesome price? If anyone ever told you that, you can look them in the eye and tell them about the Martin 000X1AE acoustic-electric. It's a real-deal Martin guitar with a great-sounding solid Sitka spruce top, with great-looking mahogany-grained HPL back and sides. You'll love playing the Martin 000X1AE for everything from aggressive strumming to delicate fingerpicking - and that makes the 000X1AE a great first guitar for the player still trying to find the right style. An added bonus? The Martin 000X1AE even includes Fishman Sonitone electronics, so you can plug into a PA and play your first solo acoustic show or step onstage with a band with your Martin 000X1AE.

I first played a Martin in 1972 and was blown away by the tone and feel but there was no way I could afford one. While waiting for an appraisal on a vintage bass head at Guitar center, I tried out several guitars and was not impressed until I picked up the plastic Martin. The sound almost brought tears to my eyes. Great tone and volume. I didn't even realize that there were Fishman electronics built in until after I bought it because they are practically invisible. A very impressive instrument. Kudos to Martin Company!

This is truly a quality Martin guitar. It has a solid sitka spruce top with HPL back and sides. Do not be put off by the High Pressure Laminate back and sides. This smaller body guitar is definitely a must have guitar for the budget-minded player who wants a Martin. The Stratobond neck is rock solid. I have 10 guitars and can tell no difference between the Richlite fretboard of this Martin and the ebony fretboard of my Taylor or the Rosewood of my Blueridge or Alvarez guitars. The setup was good out of the box although for my personal preference I did sand the saddle down a bit. The guitar comes with a basic Fishman Sonitone pickup. Nothing fancy but it sounds good through my small Ibanez Troubadour acoustic amp. This is a no frills guitar that looks good, is lightweight, and you can play it for hours with no fatigue. The top is a matte finish with a rosette around the sound hole. Although a very plain looking guitar, it grows on you after a while. The tuners are excellent and the guitar stays in tune.

The guitar comes with Martin SP light strings with the Cleartone treatment (MSP 7100's). I am not a fan of Cleartone strings. I immediately put a set of D'Addario EJ-19 bluegrass strings on it and what a difference in boom and bass response! I love this guitar. You will not be disappointed if you pick one up.

This guitar is, by far, the very best value guitar on the market today. Hyperbole? You might so, until you try it; then you will realize that the amount of guitar you get for the price is of a professional grade. The guitar is made from lower-cost materials, but is constructed so well nobody will ever notice. In fact, all it means is that this guitar is more durable than one with traditional materials, and can take a beating if it needs to without sacrificing tonal qualities. Though a very expressive low-mid range, this guitar has a tone of balance and clarity too. Great for fingerpicking, blues, bluegrass, or country and many styles beyond.
Bottom Line: a versatile, tough, great-sounding guitar. A guitar from a very respected company of proven craftsmanship, with a LIFETIME WARRANTY!! And, a guitar which, because of the materials and manufacturing location, is priced in a price-range most players are comfortable paying. A true value all around, and I have yet to see or hear a better guitar for a better price anywhere else.

For the price, I can't imagine another guitar out-performing the Martin 000X1AE. Martin guitars certainly have a signature sound--I tend to think they have a nice snap and a little growl--and this model is no different.

I actually wasn't planning on purchasing this guitar at all. I was helping a friend buy his first guitar, and this model was right at the top of his price range. I picked it up and started playing it for him, and...wow. So, I played every other guitar in the store under $1,000 (I played them acoustically and through a Fishman Loudbox Artist), and this was, overall, by FAR the best of them.

Admittedly, some other guitars under $1,000 did sound better either plugged in, or acoustically, but as a total package this guitar took the cake. I had been looking for a workhorse guitar to gig with, and at some point (not that day) I was prepared to spend about $1,000 on something like a used Taylor 314ce, but this guitar does everything I require, and I paid less than half of what I was expecting from a more expensive instrument.

Some people will dock this guitar because of the HPL neck and sides, the richlite fretboard, the satin finish, and other corners Martin cut to make this guitar so inexpensive. And in some sense, they're right. It's not a guitar you would buy just to brag about owning it. It's not the best sounding guitar I've ever heard. Heck, it's not even close to the best sounding guitar I own (that title belongs to a Breedlove Performance Focus). But, it has a nice, balanced sound, the electronics--though inexpensive--sound pretty darn good, and it's got a comfortable, easily-playable feel, especially for a Martin. You can play this guitar live, and nobody will think you sound bad unless it's because you're a bad guitar player.
