Having recently started doing illustrations/comic art, I was desperately looking for a drawing board to draw back-pain-free. I thought I would experiment with a portable drawing board until I could afford a proper drawing table. I ordered the large one since I thought the SMALL was too small (check the dimensions) and the product arrived within two days of placing the order and was packaged securely. The construction looks pretty solid and the 1/2" board is perfectly flat. I am not sure if it has a perfect edge (to use a T-square) but it seems workable for now. It has about six different adjustments and the contraption seems to be well-built. The handle and clips are of good quality too. One thing I would have liked is farther-spaced positions at higher angles because the largest angle you can get with this is approximately 30 degrees (at the last stop you can see in the picture - also, in the picture, the metal stand is placed in the middle before the last stop showing a higher angle than what is possible) - I have heard drawing tables typically incline more than that and would have liked that on this board. But this works great for now. All in all, a good buy.

I'm the lead designer and creative lead for a software dev company. I work primarily from home and don't have a lot of space. What the Martin Portable gives me is the ability to set up whenever I want. I don't have to sit in one dedicated area or give up space permanently. Even after we move I plan on keeping this around for my home-office instead of migrating to a dedicated table. I don't want to give up the space at this point (of course things could change).

It's easy enough to set up for the kids to use while they're drawing and heavy enough to stay in place. My main gripe is that the board doesn't elevate as high as in the picture. If you look closely it's not in a locked position. I'll probably jury-rig something at some point to give me the desired range, but for now it works just fine at the highest level.

The board loses a star because of the clips up top. There are two of them instead of one longer clip. It's a pain to position a sheet of A2 properly on this thing without it scrunching up or binding. Otherwise, it's a great drafting board.

This sketch is ideal for drawing, large smooth surface with two clip on top. Those clip can be use to hold the paper and prevent it from sliding down the surface of the board. The adjustable stand is very easy to adjust, there are six different angle you can choose from. I don't know if it is the board I have,or it is the product itself. The stand is wobbly when setting a flat surface, I have to put some paper in one corner of the surface to prevent it from wobbling. That is why I take away a star, other than that, everything is great except it is a little expensive.

I read reviews stating that these drawing boards are packaged terribly and many people received damaged items but some didn't. Being that these drawing boards are the only design I like, I took a gamble and hoped that mine would not come damaged. Suffice to say, it did. The packaging is beyond terrible. The drawing board is placed inside a plastic bag, covered with paper and put into a box. Mine had a chipped corner and a broken stand bracket that holds metal stick that keeps the board at an angle. The center of the board itself was not cracked so I could still used it. The broken piece that holds the metal stick in place is the only thing that bothers me so we’ll see how long that lasts.

Definitely not a product that’s worth 70 dollars, let alone a list price of 100. More like 40 dollars tops. If you’re going to charge 70+, the plastic pieces behind the board should be hard to break and more care needs to be put into packaging. Some styrofoam on the corners to keep it from chipping seems obvious but I guess not. I could return it but it’s just too much of a hassle to do returns on large items.

Bad packaging aside, it’s a good design, it’s easy to move around as it doesn’t way anything yet it stays in place even when you lean against it. The size is just right. Couldn’t find any other drawing boards with this design. If you chose to buy it, know that there’s a good chance that it will come damaged, so you decide if it’s worth shelling out the 70 dollars.

This fits on my desk perfectly. I move my keyboard off to the side and wheel over to the left when I need it. It's at the right angle for drawing and sketching. I am just learning to draw, and I was finding that my neck was craning. The surface is kind of easy to keep clean, but I am messy:=). The clip keeps the paper in place. I can't afford a drafting table, and who needs one with this? It is very well-made. It has a handle to carry it, and it will last me for years. I took back my easel and got other art supplies I needed. GREAT purchase!

I would recommend this product to any art/drafting student. However, you should consider getting the smaller one, I bought the larger one, and while it fits in my car, it's still a bit too big, so get the smaller one.

I bought this drafting board to supplement my larger drafting table when I wanted to draw away from my studio. It is a great little board. The only negatives I have to say are that the board is a little lighter than I expected, but that could be a positive if portability is your main concern, so it slides a little when I rest my elbows on it. The only other negative is that I wish the board angled up a little higher, as it sits now it only goes up to about a 35-40 degree tilt. Other than those two small negatives the board is great and I would buy it again.
