This review is from: Martin Rattler Adventures Of A Boy In The Forests Of Brazil (Paperback)
This is my first RM Ballantyne book, and I must write that I was quite impressed. I have been told that Ballantyne wrote books for young people and were often preferred by boys. Being neither of these two categories, I will highly recommend his books to those who are looking for great stories, factual detail, references to the Almighty, great character, difficult situations, adventure-adventure-adventure, joy, pain, regret, strong family ties and work pictures second to none! You will embrace his characters, and see the world as it was seen through the eyes of Mr. Ballantyne.I loved reading as a child, but lost the love when in college and working when the only choices I considered were at the book store on the Best Seller table. Now busy homeschooling, I don't have the desire to read a book that is forgettable within a short passage of time. With Ballantyne I didn't have to reread a paragraph because I was day-dreaming, I had to reread the words to gain some clarity and to relish in the vivid descriptions. With the numerous titles on the shelves of the Best Seller shelves that are destined to be tossed out, it's delightful to find an author that will find a permanent place on my library shelf at home. Ballantyne wrote a book that inspired Robert Louis Stevenson to pen Treasure Island. With that in mind, I am going to read The Coral Island.... |
