Keeps paint fresh--non-stick , easy no mess clean up!,
By
This review is from: Martin Universal Airtight Peel-Off Palette (Kitchen)
I bought one of these palettes about one year ago and have used it heavily. I teach Decorative Art and threw out tons of paint when using a normal "wet palette" but with this palette, the paint stays usable for over 3 weeks! (even in a pellet-stove heated room with DRY heat).I spray the center part with a spritzer bottle before closing and it stays as fresh as the day I put the paints in it. NO staining from any color I've used even the blues that usually stain. The lid, which can be used as a mixing place--has a gasket and seals in the moisture and there are four clips to lock it closed. This product more than lives up to the "blurb" about it and I'd buy another in a heart-beat! I save paint and once a month keep the lid off, allow the bits of paint left to dry out, then just peel off the paint and toss it in the trash! Palette looks like new!

Great Palette,

I have had this palette for about two years, and I have to say it is great. I go through periods of painting and sometimes neglect cleaning my palettes. This had led to me ruining a bunch where large blobs of paint harden, and I'm too lazy to spend half a day cleaning it. This one, it just peels right off, at most it has taken me 20 minutes to get totally clean. And after two years, this palette looks almost the same once cleaned, aside from a few scratches on the top from moving it around. The seal works pretty well, it's not totally air tight (it will loosen up over a week or so left alone) but this is probably the best you will get with a palette. Again, after 2 years the seal functions the same as it did when I got it. The palette is large, and that's really the only thing that bothers me. I like to hold my palettes and this one is a little awkward with no finger holes, and it's massive size. So if you have some desk space by your easel and you want a palette that will save your paints, is large enough for mixing many colors at once, this is probably your best bet.

"Peel Off" palette,

I do like it. I was excited about the "peel off" feature, but with oil, (don't paint with acrylic) the paint has never dried to the point of being able to peel off - so the feature that I thought would be wonderful really never occurs because oil paint takes so long to dry or I need to begin another painting before the paint has time to dry. It would be nice if it were a little larger, too, but I use the lid as mixing area.

WIll pay for itself in the paint you don't waste,

I go through periods of not painting, and with this you will not lose your paints. Okay it won't keep them from drying out, but it won't happen overnight, and the money you save by not wasting paints will more than pay for this.I have two of these, one for oils and one for arcrylic. For oil painters this really takes getting used to as a pallette. The center space is really not big enough for mixing a wide pallette. So it will take some getting used to, or use the lid as someone mentioned. I am usually a messy painter, so this helps me keep organized. It says airtight, not sure about that. but you will not have a mess if you drop it, the lid will stay secure. I can't recommend this product enough.

Real Paint Saver!,

I have to say that this product lives up to the hype. I use tube acrylics. I was away from painting for a week, but I had spritzed the palette with water before I closed it and the paints were immediately useable when I returned. It costs a bit more than a flat palette, but has paid for itself with paint saved.Definitely worth it.

Works well for watercolor,
This review is from: Martin Universal Airtight Peel-Off Palette (Kitchen)
This palette works well for a watercolor palette--especially for travel & workshops. The sort of round shape can be used to organized paint color into a color wheel of sorts.. But mainly the seal helps keep the paints from drying or spilling out when transporting. I recommend it to my students. A bit 4, but the plastic holds up very well--better than most.

Don't buy this if you paint with watercolors,

I bought this palette after starting a watercolor class and I really wish I hadn't! I'm sure it's great for acrylic and oils, but for watercolors the teflon aspect of it is pretty bad. The water will not puddle like it should and is forced back into my brush. I now have to go out and find ANOTHER palette after spending the $$ on this.I'm giving it 3 stars because despite my problems, it really is well made and is probably really good for acrylic and oils. |
