5.0 out of 5 stars One of the easiest Paper folding machines to use.
I have used many paper folding machines from other manufacturers as well as Martin Yale Corp, none which come with this much ease and quality as this machine does. 3.0 out of 5 stars Functional but frustrating
I've had an earlier version of this paper folder (1501X) for several years, and it is without a doubt the most frustrating piece of office equipment I've ever used. It works just well enough whenever I use it (maybe 2 - 3 times a year to fold a few thousand sheets of paper each time) that I've tolerated its lack of operational consistency, but I wouldn't recommend it to...

Secondly, the only skill you need to operate the folder is the fanning of the paper when you insert it into the feeder. Lugging it around is not really an option, but who really moves this type of equiptment around the office. I highly recommend this product, you will not be disappointed, I assure you.

I have had this machine for about 6 years at work and it still works. You just have to clean the roller every once and awhile. Jams are easy to clear.

I have not used this machine heavily, yet, but it folds a piece of paper in about 1/3 of a second. The outfeed trays are two loose pieces of sheet metal. Also, the guides are a little difficult to keep square--I recommend buying an American-made try-square at your local hardware store (not Lowe's or Home Depot!).

1.0 out of 5 stars No Good - Too Many Paper Jams, January 12, 2012
This review is from: Martin Yale CV-7 AutoFolder, Ideal for Churches, Schools, Businesses and Associations, Grey (PRE1501X) (Office Product)
Our church purchased this machine to fold our weekly church bulletins. It is anything but helpful and in turn was slower than folding by hand. You have to put the paper "feathered" into the feeder tray which is unreasonable when you are trying to fold 500 pieces of paper. If it is not perfectly feathered it will jam. It jams quite often and is very difficult to unjam. Requires jamming scissors, screwdrivers into the machine to dig out the paper and then you only get small pieces at a time. We spent more time clearing paper jams than running the machine. It now sits in the corner and is not used. Frustrating machine - would not recommend to anyone!

3.0 out of 5 stars Functional but frustrating, November 4, 2011
This review is from: Martin Yale CV-7 AutoFolder, Ideal for Churches, Schools, Businesses and Associations, Grey (PRE1501X) (Office Product)
I've had an earlier version of this paper folder (1501X) for several years, and it is without a doubt the most frustrating piece of office equipment I've ever used. It works just well enough whenever I use it (maybe 2 - 3 times a year to fold a few thousand sheets of paper each time) that I've tolerated its lack of operational consistency, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone and I wouldn't buy it again.

The good news is that under the right circumstances it folds paper. It works well enough that when all goes as intended it's much faster than folding the paper by hand, and it has done so for me for several years of intermittent use.

The bad news is that it is very, very picky about what those right circumstances are, at least in my experience. Whether or not it's going to work without jamming up frequently on any given day appears to be dependent on the ambient temperature and the humidity in the air, as well as the weight and surface finish of the paper being folded, how recently that paper was printed, and the cleanliness and roughness of the rollers in the machine.

I've found that the folder works best with 20 pound paper with a fairly rough surface finish, which at my local office supply store is one of their lower quality papers. Heavier or lighter paper, or paper with a smooth finish - I don't mean glossy, just smooth to the touch - doesn't work nearly as well.

Frequent cleaning of the rollers usually helps (as does occasionally abrading them with very fine sandpaper), but on some days this cleaning makes the machine even more prone to jamming. I suspect that one of the biggest factors affecting the reliability of the folding operation is the level of humidity in the air, perhaps because that also impacts the amount of static that's generated in the paper and the machine.

In fact I'm posting this review just now because the weather changed recently, the humidity level dropped significantly, and I can't finish a batch of paper folding I need to do. I got on Amazon to look for a replacement paper folder, only to find that the machine I'm using appears to be rated as one of the better ones out there at a reasonable price.

I thought about giving it a 2-star rather than a 3-star rating because of all the frustration and wasted paper it has caused over the years, but I went with 3-star because it usually works just well enough to get the job done. It's still faster than folding by hand, and for the few times a year I use it I can tolerate its unreliable functionality.

3.0 out of 5 stars Folding machine, March 29, 2011

It was already set up for the z-fold, which was nice. Must be VERY careful or you can jam it - if so, most likely you will have to tear the machine apart to get the jam out and some of the papers will be destroyed. When it is working properly, the folded items may get out of order in the out stack. I think a lot of this is getting used to the machine and what you should & shouldn't do regarding stack of papers, etc.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great for one-page junk mail - not for letters., September 20, 2005
The machine folds well, but spits the pages all over the place. I called the manufacturer and they were especially unhelpful. Their response was, "Yeah, it won't keep the pages in order. You need a different machine for that."

I guess if you're sending one identical page to people and have already addressed the envelopes, this will work. Otherwise it is useless.
