The key element in this miraculous transducer is a micro-thin, low-mass diaphragm that is etched with an ultra-light, conductive aluminum. This film is suspended between two opposite-polarity, high-field-strength neodymium magnet arrays and housed in special steel perforated outer plates. When the audio signal from an amplifier passes through the diaphragm's surface, it creates an alternating electromagnetic field that interacts with the fields of the fixed magnet arrays, moving it back and forth with incredible fidelity to the original signal.
The Vignette shares several important performance enhancing features with the world class MartinLogan electrostatic loudspeakers. This ensures precise, accurate reproduction with vanishingly low distortion. As mentioned above, the ATF diaphragm (based on Radia® planar technology) is sandwiched between and simultaneously driven by extra powerful magnet arrays of opposing polarity to create an inherently linear push-pull effect similar to that of an electrostatic loudspeaker. This is why Vignette is such a highly regarded on-wall loudspeaker and matches so well with other ML speakers.
Another similarity to a MartinLogan electrostatic loudspeaker is that the diaphragm is driven uniformly over its entire surface, rather than at just a small contact area as in a conventional cone or dome driver. This allows Vignette to reproduce music and movies at levels of detail never expected from such a small package.
In simple terms: Like all MartinLogan products, Vignette does an amazing job at delivering sound exactly the way it was recorded- a pleasure rarely experienced from speakers at twice the size or price.
Installation and Application Versatility
Vignette is suitable for use in any stereo or multi-channel audio system, mounted either on- or off-wall. It works well on its own but blends well with all other MartinLogan speakers in both sound and appearance, which allows mixing and matching to meet specific installation requirements.

The Vignette is an on-wall or off-wall speaker that can be used as either center, front or surround channels. The Vignette comes standard with both black and silver grill covers and a low-profile, single-pivot wall brack that allows verticle or horizontal mounting. Table and floor stands are optional. The Vignette has two 4 " woofers as well as a high frequency driver and plays from 78 to 20,000 Hz.

If you can buy this for less (at a sale) it will be a big steal!
I upgraded from a Polk CS series center speaker to this a month ago, and what a pleasant surprise it has been! Earlier I couldn't make out several dialogues in movies in Doly ProLogic II c mode (I have a fan in the same, mid size room), and had to raise the volume better than -20db. But this one, even with the fan running, is unbelievably clear at -30db and I can hear sounds that I never heard before. In terms of specs, Polk was a 125watts 100hz+ speaker while this is also a 125watts but 78hz+ speaker - doesn't look too different on spec but sounds worlds apart! My equipment list runs - Denon AVR-988, Panasonic DVD, Martin Logan Aeon i front speakers and Grotto subwoofer, with Polk speakers for surround sound. I have been a Martin Logan fan for years but have tried other brands now and then and keep coming back to Martin Logan. Apart from a good clarity for movies/dialogues, it sounds sweet with music (obviously being a Martin Logan, it has to be a good audiophile speaker first!), in 5 channel/PLII music/Neo modes. With a nominal 6 ohm rating, this speaker should work with any receiver (unlike Martin Logan's ESL line that demands high end and high current receivers with a good capacity to drive low impedance speakers), so this will work with any stereo/receiver setup! Also this speaker is flexible - can be kept under the TV on the TV stand or can be mounted below or above a plasma/LCD TV.

for the last part of my home theater, I added the Vignettes on top of the Fresco stands for my surrounds. They use a different driver with much of the same qualities as the electostat so blended really well. I didn't know there was so much detail going on back there. Nice looking and I like that there is two grills in the box, one black and one grey. With the grey grill, they look nice and sound fantastic. I tried them as a front speaker as well and was surprised at how clear and dynamic they where. The nice final touch to my complete system.
