Martina Continues to Amaze!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Martina (Audio CD)
Martina McBride has done it again! Her style and impressive vocal talent shines through on this CD. This album contains a strong collection of songs that will tug at your heartstrings and make you feel good all at the same time! The opening song "So Magical" is an upbeat, fun song that reminds us how to find the beauty and magic in daily life. Other upbeat "fun" songs are "This One's for the Girls" and "Wearin' White" - a true fun, country song that will make you smile (with Vince Gill's background harmonies making it all the better)! Martina's vocals soar on the powerful ballad "How Far", "City of Love" and the incredible live version of "Over the Rainbow" that will give you chills. The incredibly touching "In My Daughter's Eyes" (to be the second single) will bring tears to your eyes. "God's Will" is about a crippled boy who teaches us the meaning of selflessness, love and hope (it's a little long - at almost 6 minutes with a long instrumental ending) but the lyrics will absolutely touch your heart. Martina even mixes it up a bit by including the bluegrass/gospel-ish tune "Reluctant Daughter". I could go on about how each and every song will touch a certain emotion. It's just an incredibly well done and uplifting album - and Martina's vocal talent is unparalleled!! The version with the bonus track "Show Me" is only available at WalMart but it's a fantastic song and well worth a trip to WalMart to get that version. Enjoy "Martina" - it is a must have!!

Simply The Best,
By Sara Gunn (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Martina (Audio CD)
Martina McBride is back and better than ever. The greatest singer in country music---scratch that, the greatest singer in all of popular music---has delivered once again."Martina" is a fantastic collection of songs sung with beauty and power and grace. It is almost impossible for me to even begin to think of choosing a favorite song, because I love each and every one of this cd's twelve tracks, but "So Magical" is just a perfect upbeat summer song, "In My Daughter's Eyes" is an incredibly moving ballad and "God's Will" sends shivers through me. Not to mention "This One's For The Girls" and "She's A Butterfly" which make me feel so happy and so sexy at the same time! And to be honest, I never cared for the song "Over The Rainbow" all that much until I heard Martina sing it. Now it's one of my favorites! Martina's performance is breathtaking on every track as she brings true emotion, gravity, dignity and decency to the ballads and a fun, joyous and sexy spirit to the more uptempo songs. Each and every song features a powerful vocal performance. Martina always gives us her all and that is always more than anyone else can give us. I fully expect this cd to be nominated for multiple awards and win all of them! If you haven't bought it yet, do so quickly! Go ahead, treat yourself, you deserve it!

Smooth and Creamy,
By Amanda Richards (Georgetown, Guyana) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Martina (Audio CD)
I have been listening to a wide mix of music lately, from Nickelback to Outkast, from Clay Aiken to Evanescence, from Matchbox Twenty to Thalia, Beyonce, Train, No Doubt and Westlife. These are all excellent performers, but the "feel-good" girl among the current "IT" entertainers is unquestionably Martina Mcbride. The album contains a collection of cotton candy sweet, touching and moving material, which can chase the darkest gloom from a cloudy day. She may be guilty on a few songs of putting in so much effort that she almost screams (reminiscent of Heart songs like "Alone"), but the majority showcase her smooth creamy delivery to the max. A refreshing break from the frenetic and dark side of music.

MORE THAN WORTH THE WAIT!!!,
By
This review is from: Martina (Audio CD)
It's been a long time since we've had new music from Martina but once again, it's been worth the wait!!!! This cd is great from start to finish. I love that she included "Reluctant Daughter", a definite bluegrass song and "Wearing White", a definite two stepper. With "How Far", "When You Love Me" and her live performance of "Over the Rainbow" (thanks for including this one by the way), Martina proves that her vocal talent is second to none. With "God's Will" she takes your breath away with her interpretive ability and her emotion. She puts everything into every song. Martina is truly one of the top 3 or 4 singers on the planet and the kicker is, she just keeps getting better. This cd is a must have for any music fan and will satisfy the traditional and modern country fans. Martina has always stuck to her guns and remained true to herself in her life and in her music and I for one, am glad she did. She's a class act and an amazing talent.

STILL THE SOPRANO SONGBIRD OF THE COUNTRY WORLD,
By "swingoutsisterguy" (New Castle, DE USA) - See all my reviews

Being a fan of Martina, I had to buy this cd. As with every cd I buy, I never assume that it will be great, much less good. But much to my chagrin, the self titled MARTINA is great. Her vocal work is great as always and the selection of songs was good. The song SO MAGICAL is typical Martina: bouncy, fun, very country and lovable. SHE'S A BUTTERFLY is a beautiful ballad that reminds me of one of my favorite Martina songs (Broken Wing). CITY OF LOVE (the stand out song) is another one of those typical Martina songs: so country. THIS ONE'S FOR THE GIRLS is a joyous proclamation of women and thier gifts, trials, failures and successes. WEARING WHITE is another hill billy country song for Martina. She does wrangle in two pop-esque type country songs. WHEN YOU LOVE ME & LEARNING TO FALL could very well be heard on the pop stations. But thanks to her vocal range and the instruments used; it stays country. To close out the cd she includes a live version of OVER THE RAINBOW. She raises this song to a level that no one can surpass. Her voice is just grand. God gave her a wonderful gift and I am glad she shares it with all of us. I have never had a disappointing cd from Martina and she comes through again with her self titled one. For anyone who loves country music, this is a must have. For anyone who loves female country stars, this is a must have. And if you are a Martina McBride fan...I don't think I need to say it. ENJOY!

An AMAZING Album!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Martina (Audio CD)
Just when I thought that Martina McBride cannot possibly get any more better than she already is, she proves me wrong again!!! Her cd "Martina," is AMAZING!!!! Here is how I rate each track (5 stars= BEST): 1) So Magical- I love this Celtic song... the instrumentation is ear candy, the lyrics are catchy and Martina's voice is awesome in it. (5 stars) 2) She's A Butterfly- a very nice song, talking about the transition of a girl to a stage of womanhood. Tears of joy come from listening to this song. (5 stars) 3) City of Love- cool song, about surviving anything that shows up in one's road, as long as that person has built a foundation of love. Like the "yellow brick road" reference.(5 stars) 4) This One's for the Girls- Martina's first single of the album. LOVE it! It's very fun, uptempo and very enjoyable. An anthem for any girl. (5 stars) 5) How Far- WOW!!! Martina hits the highest notes in the album on this song. Once, again. WOW! (5 stars) 6) Reluctant Daughter- EXCELLENT! Martina shows her pure mountain vocals on this bluegrass/gospel tune. (5 stars) 7) Wearin' White- I LOVE this track! It's very country, uptempo and tells a story. (5 stars) 8) When You Love Me- my least favorite track on the album. I guess it has yet to grow on me. (4 stars) 9) In My Daughter's Eyes- beautiful song, about how the daughter sees the mother from her perspective. Any parent's favorite. (5 stars) 10) Learning to Fall- great song. Catchy chorus and the harmonies are a treat. (5 stars) 11) God's Will- OMG This song is SUPERLATIVE!!! My favorite in the album. It tells the story of Will, a cripled boy, and his challenging life. A tear jerking, but very powerful and meaningful song. I get goosebumps each time I listen to it. This song is worth the entire price of the cd alone! (6 stars!!!) 12) Over the Rainbow- a LIVE version of this song. A wonderful finale to the album. Shows Martina's exceptional vocal range. (5 stars) Overall, this is one of the best country music albums ever and Martina's finest! If you do not own this musical masterpiece, don't tiptoe or walk your way to the cd store, RUN RUN RUN!!!!

Martina McBride Is Blessed,
By A Customer
This review is from: Martina (Audio CD)
If you don't know who Martina McBride is, don't worry because it's never to late to find out! Two years after releasing a greatest hits collection, Martina has come back with "Martina", an album filled with 12 songs that make up one of the best, (if not best) albums of her 10+ year career. This collection of new music includes songs for all types of people to enjoy from young boys and girls to parents and grandparents. Songs like "She's A Butterfly", "In My Daughter's Eyes" and "God's Will" sound as if they were written by Ms. McBride because of her magnificent delivery when singing them. She has always been one of the best vocalist in all of music but the best just got better on songs like "Reluctant Daughter" and "Wearing White", which should please those on the more traditional side of country music. Martina's powerful pipes can be heard in top form on the contemporary country leaning songs "Learning To Fall", "City Of Love", "How Far" and "When You Love Me". Her loyal fan base including myself enjoy seeing Ms. M in concert year after year and by including a "live" version of "Over The Rainbow" on this great album, she will without a doubt make some new fans. Martina McBride is blessed and you will be to, if you choose to purchase this album and the limited edition DVD by the same title!

She Does It Again!,
By Heidi (Warren, Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Martina (Audio CD)
"Martina" should and will meet its expectations, and exceed them. Although it's been said this album is aimed toward the female audience, the male audience should enjoy it too! Some critics say the album is "pop" ish, they must have not listened to it very well because this is contemporary country music at its best! The first single off the album, "This One's For The Girls", is a very fun song with a great message. "Martina" is not much different from previous Martina McBride albums, with the exception of, "Reluctant Daughter", that seems to have a "bluegrassy" feel to it. "In My Daughter's Eyes" is very sentimental, every Mother will love it!! This album has a mix of everything, moderate uptempo songs,(So Magical), to a few very wonderful ballads including, "When You Love Me", and "How Far". Another touching song would be, "God's Will". Martina's live rendition of "Over The Rainbow" is another great addition to the album. "Martina" is a must have for any MUSIC fan!

The Magical Sound of Martina McBride,
By
This review is from: Martina (Audio CD)
After a hiatus, I recently started listening to country music again, and Martina McBride has become one of my favorite female vocalists, along with Shania Twain and Faith Hill, who accompanies her on one of this CD's cuts. The album's instrumentation, which includes more than a sprinkle of pedal steel, mandolin and fiddle, underscores its country sound with a capital "C." Ms. McBride has a huge voice, especially for such a petite person - and she sure knows how to pick some fine songs. She artfully uses her voice to convey a woman's experience and her interpretation of songs written by others is powerful. Martina belts out contemporary country, along with some traditional songs and even some bluegrass on "Martina," released in 2003.
Throughout the last decade McBride has devoted much of her time to helping raise awareness of the plight of abused women and children. She has acted as national spokesperson for the National Network to End Domestic Violence and for Domestic Violence Intervention Services. Martina has become known for her supportive female oriented songs."This One's For the Girls," with its energizing message of sisterhood, self reliance and empowerment, is driven by the beat of some wicked drums and waves of rock guitar. She is backed here with vocals from her two daughters, Delaney and Emma, along with Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Faith Hill, songwriters Aimee Mayo and Hillary Lindsey. "Reluctant Daughter," written by Sally Barris and Jon Vezner has a definite grassy feel to it. Ricky Skaggs contributes to the blue grass sound with his background vocals. The beautiful and gentle ballad "When You Love Me" is one of my favorite cuts. "In my Daughter's Eyes," another kind of love song, is a touching musical message from a mother to the daughter who gives her a reason to believe. She also does a wonderful rendition of what she calls "her favorite song ever," "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." Overall, this classy album is geared more towards women listeners, although I don't know a reason why men would not enjoy it also. It's sure a hit around my house. Highly recommended! JANA

Martina is a treasure!,

Martina Mcbride's newest album (simply entitled "Martina"), once again proves she is one of the most genuine and talented singers in the musical galaxy. She steals the guy's hearts and makes the girls feel empowered and special (as well they should feel...!)While we lost Faith to more pop-styled leanings, Martina's music remains down to earth, heart-warming and easy to relate to. From the opening cut to the finish, this album's a charmer; I especially enjoy "Reluctant Daughter", with its slight Bluegrass feel thanks to wonderful arrangement by the great Ricky Skaggs. Crank up the volume as "When You Love Me" begins; it will feel like a cool refreshing breeze is gently ruffling your hair on a screaming hot day; it will bring a smile to your face! Bring out the Kleenex for "In My Daughter's Eyes" and "God's Will", 'cause they will gently, and lovingly tug the heartstrings of even the most jaded listener. If you have enjoyed any of Martina's previous outings, this one will not disappoint! This is MUSIC...heartfelt, touching and beautiful; no jumping on musically stylistic bandwagons, no fluff. A great album by a powerful, emotive musician! From the top of her lovely head to the tips of her pretty toes, Martina is a treasure of talent. Fully recommended!
