Absolutely Indispensable
This pocket dictionary is by far the most useful Japanese pocket dictionary I have ever used (and I've used a few!). It is very easy to use, even for beginners. It also has a greater variety of words than some of the other dictionaries I've used, including the Basic Japanese/English Dictionary by Bonjinsha/Oxford. There is better.
I used this book for the last two years off and on. It usually doesnt have the word I'm looking for. It does have the most basic of words but anything more is not going to be found. For example in Japan you run into many foods that dont look familiar to you, most of these dont seem to show up in this book.

It's small enough to carry with you all over Japan or in your Japanese class, and is incredibly comprehensive for such a small book. Very rarely did I need to check a larger dictionary because a word wasn't in it. I highly, highly recommend this pocket dictionary for beginners or intermediate Japanese speakers. It has been indispensable to me for five years, and I am very pleased with it.

It's a dictionary, alright, but...., August 28, 2009

Pros: Got to my house very, very quickly! I like Amazon's Prime delivery options!!
Cons: So, I decided to order this dictionary for my Intermediate Japanese college class, since the professor recommended getting one. Well, I decide to buy if off of the rating, and the fact it said "Eng-Jpns Jpns-Eng" on the description. So I thought "Awesome! I'm getting this, and it's only $10!" How wrong I was, I thought the dictionary would use kana characters, but instead uses Romanized characters! What the heck!? Item is NOT as advertised! They should change it to say it's Romaji and not hirgana/katakana! Be warned!
