Marty Stewart, a class act,
By Brent H. Williams (Huntington, WV United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Marty Party Hit Pack (Audio CD)
One of the finest, clean cut acts in Country music, Marty blends 1950's Rockabilly with modern styles to make a great and pleasing sound. He does a great version of The Band's "The Weight" and his classic tunes "Hillbilly Rock" and "Little Things" are essential to any Country music collection. The duets with Travis Tritt on "The Whiskey Ain't Working" and "This One's Gonna Hurt You" are just great. The two stars compliment each other's style and mix really well. This is a must for any CD collection, you won't be disappointed.

A True Country Gem,
This review is from: Marty Party Hit Pack (Audio CD)
Before his landmark roots projects like "The Pilgrim" and after establishing himself as a wonderful session player, Marty Stuart was a flashy, rockabilly twanger who's roots were obvious to anyone who had an ear to listen. "The Marty Party Hit Pack" compiles the best of those years in one convenient disc. Commercial hits like "Western Girls" and "If I Ain't Got You" are found here as well as the excellent Buddy Holly-ish "Tempted." His duet with the Staples Singers, "The Weight," was one of the best songs from the "Rythm, Country and Blues" album. Also included are two great tunes from the "No Hats" era with Travis Tritt. Those songs are "This One's Gonna Hurt You" and "The Whiskey Ain't Workin'." "Burn Me Down" and Stuart's cover of Elvis Presley's "Don't Be Cruel" are also here.
If you enjoy rockabilly or guitar-driven country that isn't too polished up (despite the big hair and rhinestoned jackets of the singer), you'll definitely enjoy "The Marty Party Hit Pack." Stuart has gone on to do much more musically and in the defense of true country legends, but the songs on this album were his most successful commercially. He's a definite star for real country music, and we need more like him if we expect country to stay alive.
