This book has loads of info on a great entertainer.,

This review is from: Marty Robbins (Hardcover)
Marty Robbins was probably the greatest entertainer/showman/singer/songwriter who ever stepped onto a stage. Only his personality could surpass the talent he possessed. This author did a great job in gathering the info, there just wasn't enough 'history' of the man except for what was written in aritcles and trade papers....would have liked more personal info on the man, his family, in-depth personal opinions and beliefs in life, marriage, fame, and just more on him in general. Too bad that he didn't do more on this before he died for it is lost forever and he was too great a talent for the world to forget. His music brought so much beauty and enjoyment into so many lives that just cannot be topped. Barbara J. Pruett did a wonderful job in what she had to work with. There are thousands of 'new Marty fans' out there who have or are just 'discovering' Marty Robbins and missed the chance of a lifetime to see him perform in person....a showman all the way who really did care for the people who made him an 'icon'....his fans. He never failed to thank the people who bought his records (and sincerely, unlike most performers who do it out of 'duty') and was always giving them their 'money's worth' when they attended his shows. There are some really good performers today but all could learn a lot from this one man on how to make a masterpiece of song from just words and musical notes, perform it with a perfectly controlled and beautiful voice and then to totally please an audience with his performance without gimmicks of fire, swinging from ropes etc.. It's simply called talent (in this case maybe 'a gift' instead) and Marty Robbins was loaded with it. Perhaps Barbara, you could do a second book, pictoral edition and 'collect' hundreds of photos, maybe donated by the many fans who took the pic's at his concerts, the candid shots at the track, at home, etc. I think this would be a very interesting collection....."MARTY ROBBINS: LIFE PIC'S OF A LEGEND", or something similar.

Barbara's bibliography was my first purchase when I decided to write the biography of Marty Robbins. I have since met Barbara and she has been most helpful to me. I'm waiting for my next trip to Nashville to go through the source material she donated to the Country Music Hall of Fame. I hope to have "Twentieth Century Drifter: The Life of Marty Robbins" published by 2012.

I love my Marty, but when Jeanne Pruett (Ms.Satin Sheets) wrote this book she put way too many sites info from newspaper articles and magazines, considering we don't actually know what they said. Pages and pages were wasted with these items. If you take this info out the book would be 300+ pages instead of 600+ pages. By doing this we lost knowing so many more memories from his friends and family. That's what a Marty book should be about. About 25 pages of his accomplishments in chrono. order would have been a wonderful addition. Actually it might take more than 25 pages since this man accomplished more than any person in any genere anywhere that walked on this earth (other than our Lord, J.C.).
