About the Author

Dubbed the “Designer to the Stars,” Martyn Lawrence Bullard has received multiple honors including AD 100 and International Designer of the Year in 2010. In 2011 he will star in the television show Million Dollar Decorators and launch his Schumacher indoor/outdoor fabric line. Sir Elton John is an Oscar-winning English singer-songwriter, composer, and pianist. Tim Street-Porter is the author and photographer of many books, including Litchfield Style and the Rooms to Inspire series.

Sexy and lush are the words to describe Martyn Lawrence Bullard's interiors! One needn't have watched this superstar designer on Bravo's "Million Dollar Decorators" to appreciate this wonderful book. It oozes both the sensuality and the comfort of Bullard's designs. Almost every page features glossy color pictures of interiors Bullard has designed for his celebrity clients who include Cheryl Tiegs, Cher, Elton John, Kid Rock, Ellen Pompeo and Tamara Mellon (the force at Jimmy Choo). Bullard's palettes range from textured neutrals to sumptuous layers of rich color. The fabulous photographs allow the reader to see all the clever details of the rooms. What makes the designs of this books so accessible, though, is the fact that although the properties are some of the nicest in the world, the scale of most of the rooms are similar to those in many regular people's homes. Thus, the design techniques are not just eye candy but rather, inspiration for everyone.
There is a nice range of styles - very modern to Spanish-style hacienda to Pacific island, Malibu ranch to urban luxe, manly rustic to feminine glamour. This is a must-have design book for every shelf! I'm going to drift off to sleep tonight fantasizing about what it would be like to have Bullard design the interiors of my home. . .

This is a nice coffee table book with lots of pretty pictures. I was a little disappointed though. I recognized at least two of the interiors from home magazines, so they were not new to me. I also didn't find the other homes as compelling as the room used for the cover photo. On the other hand, MLB is an incredibly talented designer and I did learn a lot from studying some of the pictures.
