5.0 out of 5 stars Oishii desu ne! AKA "Very delicious!" in Japanese!
I received this miso sampler for Christmas, and was quite pleased. I'm not sure why another reviewer said it was "bland"... perhaps they didn't use enough of the tube of miso, or "sauce packet" as the product info calls it? My soup turned out salty and delicious, just like miso should be!

Everything is color coordinated, so it's pretty hard to screw things...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for the price.
This isn't a bad product for the price, there are more cost effective miso samplers and such out there but this is the real deal. This was imported from Japan and I'd recommend if you are a real "otaku" of Japan. But it took me about four attempts of bland soup to get the mix of miso and water just right, since there were no picture instructions, just kanji. I think I...

5.0 out of 5 stars Oishii desu ne! AKA "Very delicious!" in Japanese!, December 27, 2007
This review is from: Marukome Instant Sodium Miso Soup Sampler -5 Flavors,10 Servings (Misc.)
I received this miso sampler for Christmas, and was quite pleased. I'm not sure why another reviewer said it was "bland"... perhaps they didn't use enough of the tube of miso, or "sauce packet" as the product info calls it? My soup turned out salty and delicious, just like miso should be!

Everything is color coordinated, so it's pretty hard to screw things up. Kanji or no kanji. One square packet of X color goes with one rectangular tube of X color - it's that simple! First pour the contents of the square packet into a bowl, then pour in 6oz or so of boiling water. (I stirred it a little and let it sit a moment.) Then, open your miso paste tube and squeeze it in to taste. I like salty flavor, so I used the whole tube. Now stir again to combine, let sit another minute to allow the flavors to marry, and then consume! Just don't add more than about 1 cup (8oz) of water. These are single serving packets, after all. Depending on how salty you like your miso soup, you could probably get away with about 10oz as long as you use the whole tube of miso paste and don't want the full force miso flavor.

All in all, a nice assortment for a decent price.

5.0 out of 5 stars tastes like restaurant miso, September 3, 2008

The dried tofu could be better, but everything else about this soup is great. A good source of protein, with the lower sodium, this is a great snack or addition to a light meal.

I love miso soup, but don't eat it that often because of the sodium content which is usually through the roof! This miso is very, very good and only has 280 mg sodium per serving. So easy to make, too, by just adding boiling water. I invert a plate over the bowl while the vegetables hydrate, which takes about 3 minutes. It is delicious, and very filling. I highly recommend it.

I was afraid of ordering a soup with a label I cannot read - but this is just too easy! The flavors are delightful, and I love having the soup with a salad for my lunch. It satisfies my appetite with its richness!

I ordered 3 different types of miso soup from amazon, and by far, this is the best. The actual miso itself is a paste with the dried veggies being separate. I would definitely recommend. The only drawback was that you can't read the labels of the different types in each pack (in Japanese).

I've tried lots of instant miso soups, and have always been disappointed. Not with this soup. The packaging is daunting, true; I don't read Japanese...but it's easy just to match a smaller miso packet with a larger, lightweight dried veggie packet. They've all been good, and I suppose after enough experience I'll be sure of what veggies I'm choosing. So a bit of flexibility is required to enjoy this product! Sodium in the package I have is higher than I'd like (550 mg), but moderate compared to many other instant soups.

1.0 out of 5 stars Loaded with Salt, February 17, 2011

I ordered these as they said, "low sodium." They are not. In fact they are very very high - and have MSG. If you are looking for tasty junk-food fix, they are fine. But, for a Miso soup on-the-fly? No way. Like a salt pellet if you already watch your intake.
