3.0 out of 5 stars It's inexcuseable the colors are not accurate to the originals.
I love Marko's art. His paintings and works are phenomenal. He is one of my personal favorite Marvel artists along with Steve McNiven and Chris Bachalo (and Byrne, Paul Smith,Walt Simonson before them). The paintings of artists like Marko and Alex Ross are elevating comic art from a "low" art into a higher level of fine art much like Dave McKean and Kent Williams have...

Marko Djurdjevic is a German illustrator who has only started drawing comic covers for Marvel since 2006. In these three years, he has amassed a ton of top quality art to create his first portfolio art book, The Marvel Art Of Marko Djurdjevic

This book features the cover art he has drawn for X-Men First Class, Blade, Thunderbolts, Daredevil, Mystic Arcana, Wolverine: Origins, Thor, Spider-man-One More Day, Avengers, Hulk, Magneto and many more. The lavishly painted illustrations are accompanied by the original sketches, including rejected pieces by editors. In the last chapter, there are even character designs and sketches which got him talent scouted by Chris Allo, talent manager at Marvel.

The hardcover opens up to a concept sketch of Thor battling skeletons drawn with intense cross hatching. Straightaway you know this book is going to be good. The comic covers are reproduced brilliantly and big on the semi glossy paper. The quality of art is amazing, of course. He's got all his foundational skills down - composition, form and anatomy.

Although he has a lot of dynamic pieces, his strongest ones are actually the quieter and subtle pieces which capture the mood perfectly. The piece I like is the one with young Magneto in tears watching people being burnt in Nazi camp furnaces. It makes readers really feel for him. It's incredibly difficult to tell a story with only one panel. This illustration did it. It's really a powerful and emotive piece.

All the illustrations are accompanied by captions. Marko Djurdjevic shares his thoughts on the covers, colour choices, comments and criticisms, among others. There's also the story of him breaking into the comics industry, which is really inspiring considering he did it through sheer determination, discipline and passion. The closing interviews by Coro Kaufman and Andrew Jones give even more dimension into his personality. He self taught everything himself, was a heavy drinker before he met his wife, draws with a pen to build confidence. Very interesting read.

I love art books that talk about the artists in addition to the art. This is definitely one of my favourite art books in 2009.

Most highly recommended.

I love comic book art, especially when they're from talented artists such as Marko! I've seen many covers he's done for Marvel, and it's amazing how he's self-taught, too! From working for the gaming concept company, Massive Black, to posting his own renderings of Marvel super heroes on an art forum, and then getting a job at Marvel after they saw how good he is, is just an incredible back story on the artist.

Like I said before, this guy taught himself how to draw and digitally paint. You can't pass up this book! His artwork is interesting because he has a different style that distinguishes him from other comic book artists. From Daredevil to Ghost Rider, he's got a load of characters among these pages that will give you a nice perspective on his creativity. Each chapter has some insight about the artist, and Marko himself gives some input on some of his works as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book!, January 4, 2010

This has quickly become one of my favorite art books. I bought this book within minutes of seeing it available for sale and I am completely satisfied with my purchase. My little kids love to look through it with me and will easily spend an hour admiring the pictures (although some of the paintings do depict violence and/or blood etc. Also, the pages are a bit thin for little fingers and a couple of pages have already been torn a bit.)

If you're a fan of Marko Djurdjevic or Marvel comics, or just plain ol' quality artwork you should get this book.

People who have hear of Marko Djurdjevic, and seen his art, all know he is one hell of a talented guy. And for them there shouldn't be any doubt wether or not they should buy this art book.

For those who haven't heard of him or seen his art. You can check out a few of the covers he has done for Marvel here: [...]
The link also contains a few images of the book it self. Really worth the money no matter if you are a Marvel-geek/fan, a graphic artist, a painter, or just someone who loves looking at splendid and beautiful art.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh look at an amazing artist!, September 1, 2009

I'll keep this short and to the point. This is one of the best art books I own. It covers a good majority of what Marko has done for Marvel in the past couple of years. I really liked that they included the original sketches he did that landed him his gig at Marvel. It's broken down by the character he's worked on and by the series he did covers for. Buy this book right now! It's an amazing look at one of our great artists!

Amazing how an artist with complex shapes and designs highly thought of, can change an entire universe. Marko did this for Marvel characters and the illustrations in this book proves it!

If you are an "art of" book buyer this one is a must have. I'm an art student and am always keeping my eyes open for artists that excite me and Marko does not disappoint. I first ran onto him when I was looking over cover art for some of Marvel's comics and his imagery was so beautiful that I went out of my way to find more of his stuff. His compositions, color and style do not disappoint. I probably have close to 30+ art books and I think this one is probably my favorite...

Marko Djurdjevic has done a ton of comic book covers for his stunt at marvel, so it should come to no surprise that this book is filled with a ton of art. Other than the completed covers, come the sketches. The sketches show different approaches on particular covers, and his search to get a feel for the characters, its pretty awesome. For every one cover, there is about an average of two sketches, and there's a cover for each page just about. Definitely worth it. The paper is nice and glossy, and the reproductions are excellent. Also, the text is insightful as it deals with Djurdjevic's thoughts on the process, the characters themselves, and the choices he made for certain things. One of the best art books I own, and I own quite a few

I have to say I've seen his art before on the comics but I don't think I've actually bought any of the ones he's actually done. This guy knows his stuff when it comes to art. This artbook has about anything you could expect from Marko. Probably my favorite thing in the book is seeing what covers Marvel didn't go with. Though I wish they had bigger thumbnails of them.

If you ever wanted a book with great Marvel Characters and art to go with it I suggest you start ordering this about now.
