Discs would constantly get stuck inside the thing and not shoot out.

It's a little heavy for a kids' toy, but otherwise, it's a lot of fun and if your kid likes Cap, they'll have a great time running around the yard with this!

The motor worked, but the release handle malfunctioned and it didn't shoot any discs.

"Awesome" is the word used by my 7 year old superhero-nut. He was so excited to get this in the mail. I wished I could have taken a video of him opening the package! He loved it. Two weeks later, he still loved it. The only problem for me was that I now have to order a Captain America costume to go along with it.
How does the shield work? You insert (I think it is 5) foam disks into a compartment. As you squeeze the trigger by the handle, the disks fly out, one by one, toward your target. They don't come out hard enough to hurt anybody. I know. I was shot in the face repeatedly.

Note: Don't forget to buy 4-AA batteries. 8^)

Trigger didn't work at all out of the box. The motor ran but it would not release the discs.

I took it apart to diagnose the problem, and found the system of spring-loaded plastic levers wasn't moving enough upon a trigger pull to enable the spinning belt to grab the disc to launch. Though all the parts were failing to move their full intended range, one of the smaller springs in particular seemed to be a primary culprit. I stretched this spring out to give it more recoil ability, and was able to get the shield to sporadically launch a dozen or so discs before the spring compressed down too much again and it stopped launching altogether again.

I was actually impressed with the no-cut packaging (kids are always sad how long it takes to get their new toys out of the zip-tied over-taped packages). Unfortunately the packaging doesn't allow a way for you to test the trigger mechanism before opening entirely to see if yours is a potential dud.

Prepare for potential disappointment with this purchase.

My son and I are avid superhero fans and this was a gift that he wanted for Christmas. When we opened it up he began to play with it immediately shooting everyone in the house with the launching discs. Initially, we thought the shield may have been a dud as we couldn't get the discs to launch, but then we realized we didn't turn the power switch on. After that it's been all fun. My son loves it.

The shield is awesome and it throws really cool discs which are like mini frisbees which i colored like Captain America's shield which throw like the flying shield my star is broken because I used the shield as a form of defense
against my brother's fist but it protected me so I'm happy. It protected me so it might protect you.

My 5 year old son loves anything super heroes! I purchased the Cpt. America Disc Launching Shield for him for Christmas and he LOVES it! Good quality and easy for him to reload on his own. Assembly was easy and the "siren" sound that starts when you turn the shield on isn't as obnoxious as I thought it would be. The only reason I have the overall rating of the toy "4 stars" is because there doesn't seem to be a way to order additional discs. I have no doubt he'll eventually lose them unless I watch with an eagle eye every time he gets the toy out.

My son loves the shield and played with for a while. But at first I thought the toy was broken. The loud motor sounded like a siren and it got pretty annoying very quickly. The foam discs are great, but if their are other small kids in the house they will probably leave teeth marks in them like my 20 month old did while watching her brother. The discs don't launch every time either which was a problem for my little guy.

Overall, we had a coupon and so we didn't pay full prize. I would only buy it if it was discounted.

I called Hasbro company to ask if the motor was suppose to sound so loud and the agent was wonderful on the phone. Great customer service. Willing to send a new one to me, pay for shipping and send out a free toy for the trouble.

We purchased this for our Captain America enthusiast. My little boy loves carrying this around and playing with it. He is 3 1/2 and of average size. The quality of the plastic is good and it does not look cheap. It is a bit heavy and for him there was small learning curve in the beginning of how to hold it. I think he is still too young to play with it alone while the discs are in it as he looks down at the shield while tilting it toward his face. The discs launch with considerable force, so this could really hurt his eye. With an older child I don't see this being a problem. I would recommend this being used outside or in a playroom as the discs can easily knock over trinkets in your home. He'll definitely grow into it. I'm happy with the purchase.

My son had been asking for this toy ever since it came out. We are a household of MARVEL Comic fans. My husband especially is a Captain America fan. So when I told my son daddy was sending him a present for his 5th birthday (my husband is currently stationed overseas) he instantly knew what he was going to get him lol. He was very excited. I took it out of the shipping box and wrapped it the night before his birthday while he was sleeping. Sadly I didnt keep the box or return label as our apartment was too small to have all of these huge boxes laying around (big mistake). He opened it on the morning of his birthday with his dad watching via Skype. He was smiling ear to ear, but when we put the brand new batteries in and attempted to use it....HUGE let down, it did not shoot at all, the motor did not run, the lever did not work all the way, it was useless other than for looks. I expected a lot better from such a popular toy making company, my husband was of course upset because he wanted to at least get our son a good gift since he couldn't be here to share his bday with him in person and of course my son had gotten his hopes up for nothing...basically dont waste your time its junk.
