Product Description

Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Big Blastin' Rocket Raccoon

What do a wandering outlaw, a blaster-toting raccoon, a humanoid tree, a green-skinned female assassin, and a vengeance-seeking superhuman warrior have in common? Not much.

Except that the fate of the galaxy rests in their hands… and paws… and, um, branches. When Peter Quill (he calls himself "Star-Lord") steals a mysterious orb, he becomes the center of a galaxy-wide manhunt. Joined by a group of like-minded (for now) misfits, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora, and Drax, Star-Lord sets out to put the fun in dysfunction and save the universe!

Oh, and they call themselves … wait for it … "The Guardians of the Galaxy!"

If you don't care to read this entire post, it's all good. To find out what's up with this awesome electronic Big Blastin' Rocket Raccoon figure, just watch the video at the top of the product page. Me, I'm a grizzled grown man but I confess to giggling like an excitable young whippersnapper when I tore open the package and caught my first glimpse of this sucker. I had ordered it to give to my nephew as a present, but now I dunno. After playing with it - yes, playing with it! - I confirm that when you press the button on Rocket's leg, the blaster barrel spins with alacrity and Rocket shakes from the recoil, that the blaster "fires" with the option of varied colored lights, and that your earhole is showered with a selection of battle sounds and (so far) these eleven phrases:

- "The name's... Rocket."
- "No need to be so bossy."
- "I told you I had a plan."
- "Fine, but it's only because you're peer pressurizing me!"
- "You gotta be kidding me!"
- "It's Rocket time!"
- "You sleep with the danger, you wake for the money, as usual."
- "Groot, we're gonna be rich."
- "Locked and loaded!"
- "You wanna get to him, you go thru us. Or, more accurately, we go thru you."
- "Quill, I need ammo!"

Those phrases constitute this item's points of articulation. He's not very posable as his limbs are fixed in place.

The back of the box has a word balloon quote ("I might be furry but I'm tough as nails!") that so far Rocket hasn't said no matter how often I push the button.

Push the clear plastic doohickey on top of the blaster to change blast colors and battle sounds.

Some adult assembly is required (no tools needed). Basically, it's pushing in Rocket's detached tail 'til it clicks in.

With Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie just around the corner, you knew there was going to be some serious marketing of toys. While I was confused about the "raccoon" shown in the previews, my younger friends have assured me Rocket Raccoon was the "real deal," and this action figure lives up to all its advertised to be.

This is a fun toy, and while I won't say exactly how old I am, I had fun, and the kids I know had fun, too. I tried to post a video that shows Rocket in action, but only photos can be uploaded, and I'm not quite ready to start posing video reviews.

If there's anything I might say about the toy is that when it "blasts" away at its target and talks in a "mean" voice way, it really shakes. The toy does balance, but most of the guys held it with one hand, while pressing the weapon making him talk (no profanity or even rough language, just rough sounding).

The toy held-up well, but I wonder how it would do if I dropped it a lot. That said, this is a fantastic toy, buy it while you can still find them.

A fun, well built toy. More of a statue with voice than an action figure. No real articulation, but does have parts that move a bit when he shoots his gun.

After you snap on the tail, he has great balance for such a large figure.

I would consider this more of a collector's item or a Marvel fan piece than an action figure.

This is a pretty cool toy, nice detail, bright colors and decent sound effects. The problem is that it does not do a heck of a lot. Speaks a few random lines, plays a few sound effects and has some different colors. It shakes like crazy when firing and bounces all over the tabletop - supposed to simulate kickback. The barrel face spins. But that's it. You can't position anything. Just press a button and fire the weapon - hold it in for continuous fire. Press a different button to change the sound/color.

If you're a fan, it's probably cool. But otherwise you can skip it.

Although it appears the Rocket Raccoon Big Basting figure may not have any others in in a similar scale it is a fine figure. It took a bit of time to find the on switch for the leg button. It is initially fun but the repetitive nature of it's spoken dialogue soon wears thin. Still recommended!

I'm going to review this not from the perspective of a toy, but rather as a piece of movie memorabilia. Years ago, I use to love to go to the local mall here in Austin and stop by the SunCoast Motion Picture Company store. Where you could buy all sort of movie related items as well as the movies themselves. Over the years I've bought a number of items very similar to this Rocket Raccoon figure for my collection. So when I was offered one of these 10 inch figure to check out I gladly accepted.

I wasn't expecting this figure to be so big - I knew it was suppose to be 10" but it seems bigger than that to me. It came in one of those open face boxes that allow you to actually touch the toy before taking it out of the box, and you can activate the sound effect as the item ships with the batteries already installed and the sound box is set in a demo mode. The sounds it make are pretty loud, they should put a smile on any child face (and a frown on any adults in the room).

Once out of the box, there is some assembly required. You have to pop the tail into the figures rear-end (yeah, I know). It takes some effort to do that, so I suggest having an adult do it. Other than that, the figure is ready to go. Like I mentioned there is a demo mode on the effects box. The effects are controlled with a three-position switch - Off, Try Me (demo), and On. The unit is powered by three double-A batteries which are located in the figures backpack (there is a screw securing the cover to the batteries). Once you turn on the power switch, there are two activation points - one on the figures leg and another on top of the gun he is holding. Pressing one or the other activates both motion and sound effects, plus the figure speaks phrases from the movie.
