Product Description

Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Big Blastin' Rocket Raccoon

What do a wandering outlaw, a blaster-toting raccoon, a humanoid tree, a green-skinned female assassin, and a vengeance-seeking superhuman warrior have in common? Not much.

Except that the fate of the galaxy rests in their hands… and paws… and, um, branches. When Peter Quill (he calls himself "Star-Lord") steals a mysterious orb, he becomes the center of a galaxy-wide manhunt. Joined by a group of like-minded (for now) misfits, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora, and Drax, Star-Lord sets out to put the fun in dysfunction and save the universe!

Oh, and they call themselves … wait for it … "The Guardians of the Galaxy!"

If you don't care to read this entire post, it's all good. To find out what's up with this awesome electronic Big Blastin' Rocket Raccoon figure, just watch the video at the top of the product page. Me, I'm a grizzled grown man but I confess to giggling like an excitable young whippersnapper when I tore open the package and caught my first glimpse of this sucker. I had ordered it to give to my nephew as a present, but now I dunno. After playing with it - yes, playing with it! - I confirm that when you press the button on Rocket's leg, the blaster barrel spins with alacrity and Rocket shakes from the recoil, that the blaster "fires" with the option of varied colored lights, and that your earhole is showered with a selection of battle sounds and (so far) these eleven phrases:

- "The name's... Rocket."
- "No need to be so bossy."
- "I told you I had a plan."
- "Fine, but it's only because you're peer pressurizing me!"
- "You gotta be kidding me!"
- "It's Rocket time!"
- "I sleep with the danger, I wake for the money, as usual."
- "Groot, we're gonna be rich."
- "Locked and loaded!"
- "You wanna get to him, you go thru us. Or, more accurately, we go thru you."
- "Will, I need ammo!"

Those phrases constitute this item's points of articulation. He's not very posable as his limbs are fixed in place.

The back of the box has a word balloon quote ("I might be furry but I'm tough as nails!") that so far Rocket hasn't said no matter how often I push the button.

Push the clear plastic doohickey on top of the blaster to change blast colors and battle sounds.

Some adult assembly is required (no tools needed). Basically, it's pushing in Rocket's detached tail 'til it clicks in.

This is a cool figurine that is about 15% bobblehead. I wouldn't necessarily consider this a childs play-toy, although it absolutely is. This is not the kind of toy you give to your kid so that they can recreate their own little movie in their head or move it around, etc. This has very limited mobility and as I said, is part bobblehead. Me personally, I put my bobbleheads on a shelf for observation. They aren't played with.

This Rocket Raccoon has a cool gun that activates by hitting the button i.e. loader on the top. It rattles off a powerful (simulated) shot that causes the bobblehead and body to shake and rattle. It also has a few voices that can also be operated by a button on his leg.

This is a cool toy that is more novelty than versatile but as a novelty it is top notch and a welcome addition to my movie room.

Rocket Raccoon, who’s primed to be the breakout character of this summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy, is perfectly suited for this type of toy. Wielding a blaster the size of him, Rocket closely resembles his CGI counterpart from the movie. He spouts off at least one familiar phrase you hear from the trailers such as “Aw c’mon, I don’t got that long of a lifespan anyway!” and sounds like the actor Bradley Cooper that voices him.

Other lines include, “Locked and loaded,” You gotta be kiddin’ me! Quill, I need ammo!” “Don’t need to be so bossy!” “It’s Rocket time.” Whoo hoo!” and “The name’s Rocket,” his personal favorite, often followed by loud gun sfx and a spinning blast that lights up red, green and blue depending on what he says. From reading other reviews, it sounds like he should have other phrases in addition to these but so far that’s not the case with multiple times triggering him, so it can be quite repetitive. In addition, the description claims you’re meant to be able to press a button on his leg that gets him talking but my button doesn’t work. Maybe if it did the other phrases would pop up.

He stands at 10 inches tall, as is stated in the product name, but somehow it managed to be a lot bigger than I expected from the photo. The gun is fixed to his chest so he’s more suited for being displayed on a shelf or desk than being played with as an action figure as he’s not posable.

It’s fun for a little bit but quickly gets tiresome. But this could be due to the fact that I think mine arrived defective. At least it comes with batteries included.

The Marvel Universe is filled with comic books, graphic novels and superheroes of all kinds, and ‘Guardian of the Galaxy’ – soon to be released – has a few characters that I am sure will stand out in the kids’ minds after they see the film. One in particular, Rocket Raccoon, apparently is a feisty, no-nonsense fighter, wise-cracking raccoon.

This toy is very well built with strong plastic armatures and thick plastic in parts and it looks like it was made for heavy use. The fun parts include a secret button on his thigh and on the top of his gun that activate both the phrases he says and the gun he is holding which spins with dramatic sound effects. There are several choice phrases from the movie and each time the gun spins, the length of the spin, the color of the fire and the phrase he says are all different and activate in different combinations.

The downside for me, once you plug in the tail which is the practical support and acts like his tripod stand, is there is no articulation in the figure. Hands and arms and head are fairly locked into place. So you are basically moving a solid piece of plastic with the same expression and pose no matter what pretend situation you want this figure to me. Oh, and it is heavy. It takes three “AA” batteries and seems like a fun toy, but I even got a little board with it after a while.

Again, the detail is high but the long term play factor will probably wear out for the kids and it might be left behind quite often. If you are a fan of the comic or movie, it is however a nice piece to add to the toy collection because it definitely looks good. Again, it is very well built, nicely painted and colored and very detailed, but I am guessing it was made more for the fans than actually children having more pretend playtime with it. Check it out at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IM8W12M and tell them Lorenzo from the www.Facebook.com/TheGeekAuthority sent you!
