Editorial Reviews

With Jessica Drew still reeling from the effects of having been sedated and physically replaced on Earth by the Skrull Queen Veranke, the last thing in the world she wants to encounter is another Skrull invasion. But when Jessica is approached by Abigail Brand, a mysterious agent of S.W.O.R.D., she finds that the urge within herself to inflict vengeance upon the Skrulls is too overwhelming to deny.

The acclaimed, intensely written and beautifully illustrated seven-issue miniseries by Eisner Award winners Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev finally comes to life in this stunning Marvel Knights presentation not to be missed!

3.0 out of 5 stars Based on the motion comic April 9, 2011
This DVD release is based on the motion comic available for streaming free elsewhere. I enjoyed the graphic novel look of the show, though the action was lacking, but I have discovered that this DVD release will be all that you will ever see since the comic and thus motion comic have been cancelled.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great For What It Is December 28, 2012
Verified Purchase
Spiderwoman is tough! She threw a guy out of a window and pummeled him to death! Suffice it to say, I would not want to get on her bad side! In this production, we see the brooding Jessica Drew. A woman alone and disconnected from greater society. When asked to join a secret government agency, she reluctantly agrees. But does she know what she is in for? I will not go into detail concerning the plot. Suffice it to say that it is dark--much darker than the TV series from over 30 years ago.

To all those who feel they were duped--get over it! All you had to do was read the back to figure out this was a motion comic, and not an animated feature! Although it has elements of both, the medium more than held its own nad was, ironically, a more faithful rendition than Walter Kubiak and Feff Scott's Spiderwoman of 1979.

I give this Four Stars. Buy it only if you like Spiderwoman. She is by far my favorite Marvel female superhero. She is ranked #54 all time as the sexiest superheroine. In my opinion she should be ranked from #25 to #30.

3.0 out of 5 stars The film is clever and sometimes funny but choppy May 13, 2012
This is one of the films put out by Marvel Comics where the animations do not move, as they generally do in animated films, but we see a still drawing followed by another still drawing, as in comic books. These drawings are generally dark and they emphasize the figures, especially the breasts of the women, all of whom are beautiful. The film is not for young children. Spider woman is a one of the "Avengers," who has the power to hypnotize people to do what she wants them to do, even love her, and even become very frightened. Curiously, when she is attacked by one of the 32 aliens from other planets who are on the earth, which happens frequently, she does not use her powers, but physically fights them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as other Marvel knights June 24, 2011

I own All the Marvel knights dvds up to now, I also have all the Marvel animated movies so far and the X-men cartoon series. I've benn a Marvel fan trought the years troughout videogames etc. I bought this animated comic thinking it was going to be at least as good as the previews ones and I was some what dissapointed. The episodes are the shortest any marvel knights animated comics have had so far only lasting around 10 min. I know that we identify our selfs with the suffering of the hero throught whatever it is He or She is going through but in this dvd they over exagerated the punishment Spiderwoman receives in the entire story line to a point that all you see is a beat down heroine. I think it's hard to enjoy beign that way, I don't mind the suffering or getting beat but if you over exagerate it the movie turns in to aa dissapointment.

On the other hand the way Marvel Knights presents each of their dvd's with a different graphic art design is awesome and I find the drama and the plots to be pretty good! (exept this one)

I hope that Thor & Loki Blood Brothers soon to be released turns out to be a blast.

2.0 out of 5 stars Spider-Woman Deserved Better May 5, 2014

Don't waste your time, this isn't animation. This movie is a series of flash cards with a voice over. Buy the graphic novel instead... Tsk tsk Marvel; Spider-Woman deserved better.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Get Used To It June 1, 2012

I hadn't seen motion comics before. The closest I'd ever seen were the old cartoons based on Jack Kirby's art that they made for Captain America, Thor, Iron Man and others way back in the day. This is a grittier story, but it reminded me of those cartoons from my childhood.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not an animated movie but a motion comic June 15, 2011

Although the story is great, this is not an animated movie. This is a motion comic with voices. The art is amazing, the voices bring life to the semi still images. Just be aware that its a motion comic.

By David
this is a great movie, not as good as some of the other marvel knights movies but still awesome. the drawing in this movie is awesome. and the story is great. spider-woman is a cool character and i think they should explore more with her. like make a animated movie of her and then mabye a live action film. but all in all this was a great motion comic. if you have not watched this movie then i recommend you do
