3.0 out of 5 stars A Rather Lackluster Spider-Man
This Spider-Man is based off his first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15. The sculpt captures the look of Spider-Man, but overall the figure leaves a bit to be desired. This Spider-Man is based off his first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15. The sculpt captures the look of Spider-Man, but overall the figure leaves a bit to be desired. First of all, it is made with very soft plastic, so the legs have a tendancy to warp into strange shapes. Also, due to the soft plastic, you ahve to be very careful moving the joints. It seems very easy to break if you force it too much. There is also quite a bit of paint bleeding from the black lines in his outfit. However, most collectors will want this figure regardless of any flaws, as it contains the torso and head of the Sentinal. If you collect each figure in the wave you can assemble a giant figure. Still, the figure itself does leave much to be desired.

First Appearance Spiderman. I was very skeptical about buying this figure, but since my sons needed the piece of the Sentinel that was inside to complete their Sentinel figure, we got it anyway. To my surprise, this wasn't just another Spiderman figure. This figure is really very nice. The articulation is great. The fingers can all move separately, except the thumbs--they don't move. All of the joints were tight and nicely concealed on this figure. The paint job isn't in the colors that I would like (red and black), but was done nicely. I love how Spidey's eyes aren't so big and round, but are like narrow slits. The underarm webbing is cool, but can either be taken off (which is what we did) or left on. I was expecting some redone Spiderman sculpt with a different paint job for this figure, but he seems to be one of a kind. He's in perfect scale with other characters from this toy line. The figure also comes with a copy of Amazing Fantasy #15-the comic book in which Spidey "first appeared"--hence, the name of this figure. As I mentioned, he is part of the Sentinel Series. Which means 2 things this time-you get a wall mountable display base AND you get a piece of the Sentinel's huge 16-inch body. The display base is simply a pedestal-style base of clear plastic to make the character seem as if they are flying or in the middle of a jump. But, it can be placed on the wall or on a sturdy, flat surface for displaying. It is basically the same base that came with the Vision and Deadpool figures. When you get 6 of the 7 figures in this series (Mystique and Omega Red have the same body piece), the pieces can be joined together to make the 8th figure in the series-the Sentinel!! The massive, mechanical menace that hunts down the X-Men and other mutants and eliminates them. Everyone will surely buy all the figures they will need in order to get the Sentinel. It truly looks awesome when it is assembled. Then again, the character selection in this series is so exciting; you'll want to buy them regardless of the Sentinel. This figure is not that well stocked, so finding another may not be easy even though it is another Spiderman. ToyBiz is trying to make sure there is enough of every character so that everyone has a chance to build the Sentinel. Get him while you can.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spidey in All his Glory!, March 27, 2006

Like many people when I saw that Spider-man was getting the Legends treatment, I inwardly groaned. With the Spiderman Classics line doing so well, and the articulation greatly increasing, I thought we'd be getting something like we already had several of. I was very pleasantly supprised to find a wonderful figure. Not only is the Head piece crucial to build the Sentinel, but the figure is great. The clear display base is perfect and he can almost perfectly mimic his now famous Amazing Fantasy #15 Cover pose.
Like I said the articulation is great and the Sentinel piece alone is worth money.

This is part of a a series to build a Sentital. The picture they show does not give this Spider Man justice. Very cool detail and very posable. Not to mention it has the webbing net under his arms. The colors are deep and dark and it just looks like a great Spider Man. It also includes the head piece of the Sentital. I have collected all seven it is well worth it to have the collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars Amazing?, February 15, 2006

Now I do not own any other Spider-man figures so this is nice to have in my collection and first appearance Spider-man is a good idea but this was not as cool a figue as it may have been. It is worth getting though so you can complete the 16" Sentinel figue which is and awesome 5 star figure.

As another reviewer mentioned, the soft plactic lends itself to the figure getting distorted. As a matter of fact the left leg of mine is permanantly warped so that it always bends out, making it imposible to make his legs straight for standing. Mine must stay on his included stand. This is OK as I can bend the leg up behind him for a sweeping in on a web-line look, but still, it would be nice for some versitility. He's a little small overall and this just makes the problem worse.

I think he is supposed to be small as this is the early teen version of Spider-man. I mean he was like 15, right? It may be accurate but it does not help the figure. And yes, the webbing on his arms is not too great looking.

I've been able to get mine into one really good pose of swinging into action using the stand, one arm up as if swinging in on a web and one arm forward as if shooting another, but this is about it. Looks good in that one position though. Not too fun or great but since he looks good swinging in I can allow 3 stars over all.

3.0 out of 5 stars lame web pits cheap frikkin fingers, January 22, 2006
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Marvel Legends Sentinel Series Figure: 1st Appearance Spider-Man (Toy)
The over all sculpt of this figure is very pleasing but the main problem is the web pits. Any SPidey fan knows early Spidey was all about the web pits and this figure falls flat in translating the concept. When I bought this figure I showed it to a friend who laughed and said what's up with the old lady's shawl? Which is exactly what it looks like. What uis so riduclous about this problem is that this is not toy biz's first atempt at web pits. It has been done before in the sinister six boxed set. They knew it was weak then but yet they still kept the design the same.
Now on too the fingers, what can I say? They aren't fingers they are little skinny sticks on his hands. It's pathetic. He can't make a fist and he can't conviningly spin a web out of them. It's almost as if they got bored with figure and just rushed it.
