3.0 out of 5 stars GET THIS FIGURE ONLY IF YOU HAVE TO..., December 26, 2005

This review is from: Marvel Legends Sentinel Series Figure: Mystique (Toy)
Well, they did it to me again. They took the one character in the whole series that I was really anticipating the most and then didn't do her any justice. This is another one of those "the picture on the package looks better than the product" situations. Mystique is one of my favorite characters and I was excited to find out that they were going to put her in the Marvel Legends line. After ToyBiz had done such an excellent job on Phoenix, the Black Widow, and the Invisible Woman, I thought Mystique would be just as good. I was wrong. She's good from about the neck on up. And, even that is a stretch. They have used a different body sculpt from previously mentioned characters (which were great) and have come up with a figure that is shorter and much less articulated than the other female figures. Mystique sports 27 points of articulation as opposed to the 40 points on the Invisible Woman and Black Widow. As this line of figures progresses, I would think ToyBiz would maintain consistent articulation among their figures--not less. Her paint job has too much blue air brushing for the shadowy, recessed areas of her white costume and her hair doesn't seem to go down far enough on the back of her head. Her arms and legs are too skinny and her elbow and knee joints are rubbery. I think when the figure I have was put into her package, the left leg was bent in so she would fit correctly and now the leg won't straighten out and I can't even get her to stand up on her own. On the good side, her joints were all tight and well concealed (probably because there are fewer to conceal) and her belt of skulls and loincloth were nicely detailed. She comes with a poster book instead of a comic book. I was hoping for a comic book, but the artwork in the poster book is very, very good. Since she is part of the Sentinel series, she comes with a piece of a Sentinel that can be joined together with the other Sentinel pieces from the other 6 characters in this series to make the 8th figure--a 16-inch Sentinel. It looks fabulous when it's all put together. Omega Red and Mystique both contain the same body piece. So, if you wish to have one and not the other, you'll still get the same Sentinel piece. The characters in this series are so exciting that you may buy all of them regardless of the Sentinel figure. There is also a clear, plastic pedestal display base that can be hung on the wall or placed on a hard, flat surface. The figure can be attached to it so it looks like Mystique is in the middle of a jump or something. She is in very short supply, so if you need to get another, it might be tough. Which is fine by me because ToyBiz could have done a better job on this figure.

4.0 out of 5 stars The ONLY! GOOD Mystique EVER!, March 27, 2006

This review is from: Marvel Legends Sentinel Series Figure: Mystique (Toy)
There have only been a handfull of Mystique Figures released, to my recolection 3. One in the mid-90's, the X-Men movie version, and now the ML version.
This is by far the best figure. While the articulation is lacking (compared to some other ML figures), and I would have liked to see a variant using an outfit like the black leather one on the Poster-Book cover, she is still great. The movie version had one pose that looked halfway decent, and that was the "model-on-a-catwalk" pose. However, it makes sense since Rebecca Rojmain Stamos described her character as "a poser, she stands there and then turns into someone else." So the pose is appropraite for the figure.
This version is much more poseable, though I think the issue people are having with the legs is that she was sculpted into a slight contrapasto pose. She is still a beautiful figure, and essential if you are trying to assemble The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
If your not a real fan of Mystique, or a completist, then she is not absolutely necessary, as Omega Red comes with the same peice of the Sentinel. (Both figures come with the lower torso.) Thogugh you could think of her as a variant, and if building 2 Sentinels, then the only doubles you'll wind up with (assuming you collect all the other variants, and then open them for the Sentinel pieces) are Spider-man, and Black Panther.
But seeing as she is a more obscure character, and one who we're not likely to see another figure of for sometime, get her now or wish you had later.

This a series of seven that build a sentinel. This alone is worth having. She is very cool looking and very posable. A little bit smaller in person but still a very good figure. Also the skull belt is nice added touch.
