Book Description

July 2003
Student by day, masked ninja by night: Peter Parker is not your average teenager. When Peter puts on that Spider-Man costume, the problems of his daily life seem further and further away. If this sounds like the Spider-Man you already know, think again. By giving this famous character a Manga spin, Marvel's creators are able to impart a distinctly Asian flavor to American icons. From the art to characters to story themes, the Marvel Mangaverse effect is like seeing your favorite heroes for the very first time -- which also makes these volumes great for readers of Manga collections who may not currently be reading Marvel stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spider with a Twist, February 8, 2004
By
Anthony (San Gabriel, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Marvel Mangaverse Volume 3: Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan (Paperback)
The Marvel Mangaverse series is great. It gives it that "anime" feel like you do when you are watching those shows. The same thing applies here. The artwork is just as intense as you do with other comics with the Spider-Man name. The volume is one whole story, but it is broken up into five sections. The style art isn't consistant; after one of the five section ends, the art style changes. It switches back and forth, but it is still enjoyable. "Legend of the Spider-Clan" has references from the story of Volume 1 of the Marvel Mangaverse. There is no weak link if you haven't read that one, but it helps if you have. You will recognize all the villians and friends of Spider-Man in thier "manga" form. If you are new to Manga, you might get a liking for it after this one. If you like manga, and like Spider-Man, you can't go wrong.

I thought this manga version was creative and alot of fun. I enjoyed the concept of Spiderman as a ninja I thought it was cool. The art was different and I really enjoyed. If you are looking for a story that fun and different and have an open mind I think you will enjoy it, I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best in the series!, February 14, 2010

This review is from: Marvel Mangaverse Volume 3: Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan (Paperback)
If I could I would give this book 10 stars, and wish it could have been an ongoing series, I would buy 50 trades of this if I could. The story is usual spiderman which is a good thing, but has its own twists to keep it new and fresh, but the real star is the art, the are is just breathtaking. The mix of Japanese and Graffiti style is something special.

As a slight warning you should know that the first issue of this series is in the vol 1 Marvel Mangaverse TPB so for this to make sense you should have that one as well but Vol. 2 and 4 each have nothing to do with this one, although 4 is really good as well.
