5.0 out of 5 stars Lee - Kirby - Steranko...how can you go wrong, Marvelite?
Collects Captain America #101-113. I don't see how anybody can buy these in the Essentials edition...they contain so much pulse-pounding color! It's classic villains galore as Cap fights the Red Skull and WWII Exiles, Batroc, Swordsman, the Living Laser, Dr. Faustus and...the fourth Sleeper! 1.0 out of 5 stars you can never go home again
In a sudden moment, my friend decided to buy one of the old Captain America comics. When it finally got here, he could hardly read three pages. You can't go home again. After years of maturity, it was a huge letdown. He shipped the book to another friend within two days, it was that bad

5.0 out of 5 stars Lee - Kirby - Steranko...how can you go wrong, Marvelite?, September 6, 2007
This review is from: Marvel Masterworks: Captain America - Volume 3 (Marvel Masterworks (Numbered)) (Hardcover)
Don't miss plenty of angst for Cap over the death of Bucky and his love for Sharon Carter. There's also a nifty retelling of his origin behind one of the best Cap covers of all tiime (issue 109). Plus, This issue also reprints all three of Jim Steranko's much-lauded, groundbreaking issues, wherein Cap takes on the hordes of Hydra and Rick Jones becomes the new Bucky! A true must for any Marvel collection!

4.0 out of 5 stars Steranko's Cap run is a must for Silver Age Marvel fans, January 19, 2009

This review is from: Marvel Masterworks: Captain America - Volume 3 (Marvel Masterworks (Numbered)) (Hardcover)
Some of Jim Steranko's best work in the 1960s is in his brief three-issue run in this volume. Forty years later, his ground-breaking cinematic composition still jumps off the page, capturing the dynamism of Kirby but with more of an edge and a lot more illustrative detail and color. Imagine what he could have done with today's high-quality printing and paper. His signature Cap cover, which is the cover of this book, is a Marvel rock album classic that captures the colors and feel of 1968 Peter Max, Roy Lichtenstein and the Pop Art crowd. If you haven't seen his work of 110, 111 and 113 -- get this book. If you remember it from those days, you'll be surprised how well these Steranko stories hold up so many years later.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kirby Is Here, March 20, 2009
This review is from: Marvel Masterworks: Captain America - Volume 3 (Marvel Masterworks (Numbered)) (Hardcover)
Kirby finishes his second of 3 historic Captain America runs in this volume. Dynamic action abounds as the Captain protects the American way of life from a long line of would be global dominators. The collection ends with Steranko's all to brief take on Kirby's greatest creation in a tale marked by wild visuals and day-glo symbolism.

The perfect gift for fans of action, freedom, Kirby, Steranko, and Captain America.
