Days of Future Past and other reads,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Marvel Masterworks: Uncanny X-Men - Volume 6 (Hardcover)
First and foremost - I ordered this from "Deepuppystore", and the provided great care in their packaging - the product was very secure and in perfect condition.
Now for the book itself. This is a hardcover collection of nine Uncanny X-Men issues: 141-150. Some might consider the stories within the nine issues to be dated and not altogether important to continuity, and I'd be lying if I didn't say I feel the same way about at least a few of them. The weakest point of this book covers the span of three issues, where Doctor Doom abducts the X-Men in what seems like an amalgamation of some very cheesy James Bond movies of the 70s. Even so, this collection begins with "Days of Future Past", one of the most audacious stories of its time, depicting an alternate future (the first ever presented in X-Men) that, at first glance would seem derivative of the first Terminator movie, had it not been written three years earlier. Within that two-issue event, we are introduced to the "new" (second) Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, led by Mystique, and get a good grasp of what was to follow in the 80s of X-Men. Kitty Pryde was introduced in the Dark Phoenix Saga, the event that came directly before this. It is here that we see her come into a role of her own and become a fan-favorite all the way up till the last issue of this collection, where she squares off with Magneto. While the price may be subject to change, I bought this for $49.78. It is almost impossible to find a mint condition trade paperback (or hardcover) of "Days of Future Past" for less than $80, so you're already getting a good deal as it is. I recommend X-Men fans who are serious about their collections SHOULD do the same. The 80s was arguably the greatest decade in X-Men history, and in this nine-issue collection are some of it's best stories. Casual readers may find this wanting, but for collectors, this is a must-have. |
