This review is from: Marvel Superheroes IRON MAN W/Quick Change Armor 5" Action Figure (1991 Toy Biz) (Toy)
Interestingly, this figure on many websites is referred to as being based on the Bob Layton Iron Man design, which first appeared in Iron Man Vol 1 #231. In fact, this figure is based on the modified version of that design made during the John Byrne run in the mid 1990's, with the more squared off look and fatter leg boots. I believe this is the only version of the modified design. In fact, I had bypassed this figure in my quest to collect the "standard" Iron Man armors from the original Volume 1 run assuming it was the Bob Layton "skinnier" version (which was just recently produced in a great figure by Hasbro in their Iron Man 2 line of figures). So with regards to that, the figure was for me more to complete my intended collection vs. overall quality - doesnt have a lot of moveable joints, and the clips to put on the armor were a nightmare to pull free and attach on the figure. Not the best with regards to detail- I think Toy Biz was just starting to get their feet wet back in the day. But for the purposes I had in mind, it rounded out a missing figure that's yet to be remade.. |
