Dead days of old, August 5, 2011
This review is from: Marvel Zombies: Dead Days (Paperback)
This wonderful trade paperback covers the Dead Days one-shot plus the zombies' appearances in the Ultimate Fantastic Four issues #21-23 and #30-32 along with their appearances in the Black Panther #28-30. This book basically tells what happens before the Marvel Zombies series and gives a very good backstory to it all. The one-shot Dead Days is the first in the book. It tells of the last survivors in the zombie universe and how Magneto helped everyone to fight off the super-powered monsters until they were seemingly over-run. It also sets up the Fantastic Four issues as well showing the zombified Fantastic Four trying to make their way to another universe full of fleshy morsels.
The Fantastic Four issues show how the zombified Fantastic Four trick the Ultimate Reed into heading to the zombie universe and having him saved by the rest of the Ultimate Four crew and, in doing so, trap the Zombie Four into the Ultimate universe where all hell breaks loose as the Zombie Four cause havoc even though they're "contained." Things are not made easier by Doctor Doom when he inflicts Johnny with a deadly Earth-threatening parasite and requires a mind-swap with Richards in order to stop it and ultimately, to save the world not only from the parasite, but from possible zombie take-over!
Next up is the Black Panther issues which basically continue from where the Marvel Zombies 1 TPB left off. A group of superhero zombies that include Iron Man, Wolverine, Giant Man, Spider-Man, and others, have obtained the power cosmic from Galactus and are using it to devour worlds and find themselves at the Skrulls' home planet; along with the Black Panther, Storm, The Thing, and the Human Torch! When the zombies devour most of the planet's population and decide to make the planet itself implode, the team of non-infected super heroes must find a way to get off the doomed rock-of-a-planet and escape the impending doom that the cosmic zombies are inflicting!
This TPB is fantastic and goes hand-in-hand with the other Marvel Zombies TPBs. The artwork is gory and fantastic and the writing (especially the bickering between Iron Man and Luke Cage) is very well done and enjoyable all the way through. The zombies' dialogue is written in a unique way that really fits the story and will make you laugh as well. I enjoyed reading this all the way through and will definitely be picking up Marvel Zombies 2 to see how this all plays out!

Marvel does it again with this graphic novel. While I would not pay the retail price at a store, it is worth reading and can be found at little cost on amazon.
