5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate match up of Marvel and Capcom characters February 22, 2005
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Truly a classic amongst classics, this is hands down one of the best and most fun fighting games I have ever played. Every Marvel character and every major Capcom character is a selectable character for you to use as a fighter in 3 on 3 battles. Super moves and air combos add to the excitement as you can make your dream team of fighters.

Imagine Megaman, Dan and Juggernaut all fighting together on the same team and the only reward is knowing that you beat up the rest of the competition. Well imagine no more.. this game will give you every combination of fighters you could ever want and it even has some never before seen characters in the Vs. series. Like a cactus character named Amingo, Cable and Marrow from the XMen and Anikarus from the Darkstalkers series.

This game is pretty much the last in the line of the Marvel fighting series (mostly due to Capcom losing the rights to the Marvel franchise) which started with Xmen Children of the Adom and then the next games would include Street Fighter characters then just all Marvel Characters and then the also great Marvel Vs Capcom 1. This takes every single character we saw in every previous game up to this point and has them almost unchanged. Characters like Iceman and Spiral which were only in Xmen return almost unchanged and just as much fun as we remember. Bosses like Thanos and Dr. Doom from previous games, are now selectable for you to use as part of your teams as well. (of course they are weakend a tad but thats only expected)

The only downsides I would have to mention are that compared to the Dreamcast version, the PS2 version is a bit pixalated. Its not as smooth and well drawn as the other version was and there is a bit of load time in between the matches that you didn't find on the Dreamcast.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2D Cult-Classic Beat'em up - PURE GAMEPLAY! January 9, 2003
Before I start, I would like to commend Capcom for this conversion. It was a LONG time coming, but they still persisted and went ahead with it. This game, while not appealing to a wider market, will no doubt please a lot of die-hard fans of the genre. Please read on and find out what my opinion is, of this cult-classic 2D fighting game.
This is where the game takes a step back in time. The 2D sprites are showing their age, and look particularly pixilated in comparison to the Dreamcast port. But what is reassuring is that all characters move smoothly and have all most, if not all of their animation frames intact. When you think about how jerky a lot of the old 2D fighting games were on PS1 back in the day due to lack of frames, it's a relief to know the PS2 can `cut it' in this area. Most of the character sprites are bold and colorful as ever, but some appear rough around the edges and recycled when compared to some of the previous installments. The game's special effects are rather impressive: when performing a tag super combo, the explosive effects are very flashy. The Backgrounds are now in 3D, but still have a cartoony edge, this is nice, but the characters being 2D, don't fit in very well - I cant help thinking the game would have had a better feel if it was 2D throughout.
So in summary, the graphics aren't too bad, it's just a pity that the character sprites suffer from pixilation and that they are not quite on par with the crystal clear sprites of the Dreamcast version.
SOUND 5.5/10
Now this is the area of the game that I find most disappointing. The sound effects during battle sound shoddy, recycled, muffled, and altogether a lot less crisp and clear when compared with the Dreamcast version. Sometimes you can barely hear the impact of a blow. The vs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perhaps The Best April 28, 2003
The characters of Marvel and Capcom collide into an all out three on three battle. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is better than the first one hands down. If anyone tells you different label their brain isn't working. I've heard people say this game was too easy well, that's why you can adjust the difficulty level, hmmm that took some brain power. But anyways all of the fighters have moves which compliment them and seem fitting for that fighter. The moves and background are especially stunning plus the triple special combos are a real killer. The music could use a little work though, someone singing about holding someone else tight doesn't seem to fit at all. But besides that this is an awesome game and the music can be fix with volume control a stereo and a c.d. of your choosing. People who aren't fans of fighting games I believe will enjoy this one too, it's just that fun, plus it's always a thrill to see your favorite characters. Fans of fighting games should be warned, you just might pee in your pants.

5.0 out of 5 stars An extremely fun fighter!! December 2, 2002
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 is not a new game by any means, as it has been around for the Dreamcast for a couple of years now. For those of us that did not buy a Dreamcast (R.I.P.), we can now rejoice that we have our very own version of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.
This game may not be as pretty as some of the newer 3D fighters, but it one of the most addictive, and fun fighting games you will ever play!!!
You have a very large assortment of charaters from the Marvel Universe (Hulk, Captain America, Spiderman, Wolverine, Cable etc), and a bunch from Capcom's (Strider, Mega Man, Guile etc.) and a large number of characters to unlock. The battles are huge, the power ups are amazing, and once you start playing the hours will fall off the clock.
I recommend the game to any fans of the Capcom Street Fighter games, or any Comic Book fans out there. This game is a blast!!!
