4.0 out of 5 stars Fun game, but be patient!
Marvel vs Capcom 2 for Xbox is a great game, but be patient. It takes a while to unlock all of the characters, and it also a pretty rare game. If you can find it for under $50, BUY IT!!! I bought mine for $36 pre-owned. (since they stopped making this game, everyone is buying it and selling it for bogus amounts!!)

versus
3.0 out of 5 stars Get it at 1/3 Price on XBL!!!
MvC2 is my favorite 2D fighter of all time! I owned the game on Dreamcast, PS2, and this version on XBOX. The XBOX version is the worst of the 3 with serious slowdown and the controls don't feel as natural. The good news is I just dowloaded the XBOX Live Arcade version for 1200 points [...] do not buy this game it is way cheaper to just download!

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid, rare fighting game with few disappointments, August 30, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (Video Game)
Being a rare game, this one is sure to cost a bundle, but DO NOT SPEND MUCH MORE THAN $40.00 ON THIS GAME!!! I enjoy this game's 56 characters and it's challenging gameplay, but I can't see paying $60.00+ for a port of a dreamcast game, nno matter how rare it may be (I got it for $24.95 at my local used gaming vendor).
First off, if your'e a street fighter or marvel comics fan, this game should pretty much fulfill all your wildest marvel on capcom fantasies. I.E: Juggernaut, Zangief & The Incredible Hulk all on the same team!!! With over 56 such fighters, your character needs are sure to be quencehed.
Another plus: Nearly all of the characters(save for goofy characters like say, Amingo, a giant cactus-man)are pretty well-balanced, so you're covered in that area. Also, as I said before, the game is quite challenging, even on some of the lower difficulty settings (gamers new to the fighting genre need not apply!).
The replayability is excellent, as it can take months to unlock the missing characters, plus an alternate color and a gallery picture for each character.

My only regrets:

No one can hide the absolutely TERRIBLE soundtrack in this game. No matter what any other reviewer may say, I can guarantee that you will NOT enjoy the music of this game, with its repetitive jazz and boring vocals.
In fact, one of the reasons I bought this game was to hear all my favorite street fighter melodies, (such as Guile, Ryu, and M. Bison's themes) but I was extremely dissapointed to find none of them here. What were the creators thinking? This was one of the most immemorable soundtracks of any video game ever!!!

Now that that's past us, let's finally move on to the graphics.
You will probably hear that this game has crummy graphics, it's true, but it seems to fit the teme of this game; the marvel characters are sort of cell-shaded, (Windwaker and XIII have this look) creating a true comic-book feel for those characters, and I'm used to the street fighter characters not having the best graphics either, so I'm alright with that.
Aside from those, the backgrounds are well done, considering they were made in 2000.

Ultimately, it's up to you whether or not you want to make such an expensive commitment to this game. I would recommend this game to anyone who considers themself an intermediate fighting game player, or a hardcore street fighter & Marvel fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing... BUT GREAT!!!, April 3, 2003
This review is from: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (Video Game)
I guess I had higher hopes... HOWEVER, this is a great game... First... everyone who is ragging about "it's just like the DC version!" stop! Yeah, sure, it's the same... But it's still great! You don't have to go giving it a "1" because it's the same game... It's still good... This game is like Street fighter (the best 2d fighter of all time) on acid... It's awesome... Great controls... 3-player tag team... playing incentive... (buy new characters, costumes...) My ONLY complaint with this ENTIRE game is that some of the 2d sprites look a little bad... I think this is a little related to my television size, as I have a large one... Still... on XBOX? the best system...l. they could do better... mayke thema bit smoother... anyhow... it's still great... Other good fighters on xbox: Soul Calibur 2, Dead Or ALive 3... Try those... Ok, Thanks for your time ~Andy

4.0 out of 5 stars Must Have Fighting Game for Fighting, Capcom, and Marvel fan, October 15, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (Video Game)
This is a great game to own. I loved the gameplay and the addictiveness due to unlocking characters and just the game itself. But it started to get kinda repetitive after a week or two. Many of the characters were just clones of one another (Ryu, Dan, Ken, Akuma). There aren't many different modes or things to do, in fact I just spent most of my time playing arcade mode. But aside from that, I like this game. If you are a Street Fighter fan this game contains many of the more popular street fighters and has all of the characters from the first marvel vs capcom. If you are a Marvel fan, this game gives great moves to spiderman and includes many of the X-men (but most importantly CABLE). I think this is a fun game to play with your friends or at a party, but if you want a game that lasts, I suggest you look into another video game.

5.0 out of 5 stars First Came Dreamcast, Now Rulez Xbox, March 5, 2003

I just (again) finished playing this game for Dreamcast, and cannot say just how much fun this game is. It is DEFINITELY my favorite 2D fighting game, and argues to be my favorite fighting game of all time!

It's too bad the Xbox version keeps getting pushed back, hoping this 03/12/03 is the final date. Pre-Ordered it!

To get things correct, the game features 56 fully-playable characters (Unlike First MvsC), and unfortunately, from what I've heard, Online Play may be getting cut out. I'm hoping not, as I want this WAY over MvsSNK2!

This game 0wn3d on Dreamcast, and will DEFINITELY wear out a few Xbox controllers as well!

HIGHLY recommended, and to those of you that care, this is NOT a blood n' guts fighting game. No Fatality type gameplay, simple fun, arcade (60's Batman TV style contact graphics) fighting!
03/10/03 Edit: Okay, another Set-back. .now I see a release date of April 03, 2003. . .Yikes!
Anyhow, Definitely NOT going to support Xbox Live, I've found out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard Find, February 27, 2008

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This is an old game. My son had it a while back and trade it in. Now he wanted it back. Had to pay more for it this time around but that's to be expected when video games are not in great demand. It was hard to find but Amazon came through and had the best price. I think he learned his lesson and will think twice before trading another game.

1.0 out of 5 stars $300?!?! Those are Crack prices!!!, June 20, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (Video Game)
Listen...any serious fighting game enthusiast knows that MvC2 is a fantastic game and is probably one of the best fighting games ever made. But it is NOT worth $300 or even $120 (that's how much a new copy of MvC2 on the PS2 will run you). Seeing as how you can download this game from XBox Live or PSN for about $15 or you can buy a used copy of this game on EBay for a fraction of the cost, paying hundreds of dollars for this one game simply does not make sense.

So unless you're an avid video game collector with plenty of disposable income to burn, do not waste your money. There are better and cheaper options out there.

OK...This is the best fighting arcade style game EVER PERIOD! But help me people please tell these pricks to price reasonably this is ridiculous especially for a game that is supposedly rare but you can usually find about a 100 on sale online or more.......I dont see owners of the original HALO try charging 60 for a used game only piece of crap............As an owner of this game at a reasonably price 25 plus 3 for shipping you guys are morons because once mvc 3 comes out this game may be in the hall of fame but still obsolete!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars IM THE JUGGERNAUT, October 15, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (Video Game)
i love the fact that u can be the juggernaut in this game. as well as venom, wolverine, ryu, megaman among others. and have up to three on your team at the same time. i remember playing this at arcades at certain places and loved it to death. found on the xbox and bought it immediately. the only thing that sucks is the price. but at this point it time it should be less than 50. u have to get this game but you have to play foreeeever to get all the characters and u have to use certain characters to beat the main boss but if you stick to it youll get the secret ones like juggernaut and others. but dont worry you still get a pretty good amount of characters from the start...i usually alwasy choose ryu venom and hulk. until i unlock the secret ones. the characters u choose work as a tag team which u can switch out or have all three come out at the same time for a second to attack your opponent...its pretty amazing, the only thing i dont like about this game is that silly song that plays as youre selecting your characters. "I wanna take you foor a riide" and that one line plays over and over again...we used to stay up till 3 in the morning playing this game and when wed go to sleep that damn song would keep playing in our heads...drove me crazy. but other than that, and the fact that it takes so long to unlock the hidden characters (at least put different bosses or something) this is a great game, get it and impress your friends and have fun
