Marvin Fremont is famous for his lively imagination. But when he overhears a strange conversation, he knows he's right to be suspicious of his weird new neighbor, Mr. Wolfe. With his curly beard and gleaming teeth, Mr. Wolfe looks like the werewolf in one of Marvin's favorite comics.

What is going on at Mr. Wolfe's creepy house? What is he doing in his basement when everyone else is asleep? Why is he so friendly with Frankie, the surly handyman, and is that a body they are sneaking out late one night?

In her newest mystery, Bonnie Pryor introduces a sleuth sure to delight her fans, as each twist and turn of Marvin's investigation leads to a thrilling climax -- and the unmasking of the mysterious Mr. Wolfe.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 3-5-Scrawny, bespectacled Marvin is an avid comic-book reader with a marvelous imagination. His latest career goal is to become a detective. In the supermarket parking lot he overhears his new neighbor, Mr. Wolfe, discussing murder with a stranger. When Marvin's mother ignores his story, the boy takes matters into his own hands. Late-night howls coming from the man's house convince Sarah, Marvin's sensible twin, that something strange really is going on. They are unexpectedly joined by another eager detective when the class bully offers his help and friendship. At first their investigations center around Mr. Wolfe's house. As Halloween approaches, however, the three sleuths find themselves following another trail with surprising results. Pryor's language is slightly stilted, but she manages to hold readers' attention with plot twists and a good use of suspense, which builds to a satisfying ending. Though the character of Mr. Wolfe stretches credibility, the three children and their machinations are believable and funny.

From Booklist

Gr. 3-5. Fancying himself a detective, Marvin finds a mystery in his own neighborhood when he imagines that his new neighbor is a werewolf. Aided by his twin sister, Sarah, the karate expert, and his new pal (formerly his bully and tormentor) Ernie, Marvin snoops for clues, stumbles upon some real crooks, and almost messes things up for the undercover detective at work on the case. The plot strains credibility at times, but many readers will take to the characters and the occasional humor in this lightweight mystery for young readers. To be illustrated. Carolyn Phelan

This review is from: Marvelous Marvin and the Wolfman Mystery (Hardcover)
As Sarah and Marvin lay in their bed, they suddenly jump from some eerie noise. They get up to investigate the noise. The noise seemed to be coming from their neighbor's house, Mr. Wolfe. As they were walking to Mr. Wolfe's house a blue car pulled up. They jumped behind the bushes to see a man carrying something covered in a white bag. The bag looked so much like a human body. Sarah quickly got her camera out and took a snap shot of the man and the body looking thing. The flash from the camera caught the man's eye. He went to investigate and he pulled both of them from the bushes...What will happend to the two youngsters? Read the book to find out. This was an interesting book with a good twist. I recommend that you read this book.
