Of my collection of DVD Audio, this album is one of the two best I have found. Fully leverages the 5.1 surround sound. You won't be disappointed.

I am playing this DVD audio in a acura that is capable of playing DVD audio. This is the first DVD-A that I am NOT impressed with. On the other hand, if you are a big fan of Marvin Gaye...it may not disappoint you. Just dont expect this DVD-A to sound as good as others.

Short & Sweet,

The reasons that it only gets three stars is that for a collection there are only eleven songs ranging from 1965 - 1973, and also the songs that are omitted. The quality of the music on the disc itself is fantastic; I must admit that I was curious to see how earlier tracks would stand up in surround. I think the sound images are placed really well considering the age of the material on offer. Not included are tracks such as; how sweet it is (to be loved by you), you're all I need to get by & too busy thinking 'bout my baby, also older tracks like sexual healing are also missing. With the body of work an artist such as Marvin Gaye produced, there should have been plenty of scope to include B-sides, rarities & live tracks on the disc. Although it is short with not a lot of features - just the basic lyrics and photo gallery, the price amazon's selling represents value for money.

Surround sound for classics is a must,

This DVD is fantastic. You can really hear the mix well and with songs like these you can't go wrong.
for sound engineers out there, it's really amazing that you can hear how they miked the vox compared to today mics and gear. Classic records needs to be heard with space and high res.

I own an Acura with an ELS surround sound system. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, there are few surround sound DVDs available, and even fewer that are reasonably priced. This is one of the few. And the incomparable Marvin Gaye. The recording is not quite as good as some other surround sound DVDs I've heard, but still much better than a regular cd.

I am enjoying this Marvin Gaye DVD-A a lot. It was a little bass heavy but I can reduce that and now sounds wonderful. Remember these were recorded decades ago in analog.
Some folks might not like the channel separation, but I for one like it. Also, I wish they hadn't stopped making these DVD-A 5.1 discs, as they sound awesome. I just purchased a Pioneer AV-610 that plays just about anything except Blurays for a little over 100 bucks. Pioneer DV-610AV-S Silver All Multi Region Code Zone Free DVD Player. Plays DVD-Audio and SACD Good DVD-A and glad to have it in my growing collection.

Marvin Gaye's genius is clearly and perfectly heard through this collection in DVD Audio. From "Ain't That Peculiar" to his later "Distant Lover", the sound is reproduced to impeccable studio standards. You feel as if you are in the very studio while the songs are being performed. This Surround Sound recording differs from others in that, the main vocal is not over-emphasized. It comes from the center and front speakers, but is not overbearing. The backing vocals sometimes come from the rear speakers, the percussion could come from any speaker depending on what it is and the balance of musical instruments is so distinct that you hear it all. After years of listening in stereo from an LP or a CD, I can finally hear what I've been missing. The duets with Kim Weston and Tammi Terrell (I love her voice) are clearly separated from Marvin Gaye's making for a unique and brilliant complimentary sound.
This DVD can also be heard in stereo, but the Surround Sound is amazing. The sound engineers did a fantastic job of reproducing the sound as it was heard in the studio. Unfortunately, there are only eleven songs from 1965 to 1973, as Marvin Gaye did so much more. "Got To Give It Up" would have been a great addition here, considering all the party vocals in that song. "Sexual Healing" is also, sadly not here. I guess one can only hope that in the future these become available. Marvin Gaye's music shines through in this Surround Sound collection.

New Sound from a Classic,
This review is from: Marvin Gaye Collection (DVD-Audio Surround Sound) (DVD Audio)
Wow! This is the way to bring back quality music. The mixing for 5.1 is fantastic bringing depth and clarity to the entire album. Take note music industry! This DVD-A sets the example for all others to follow. Sit back, relax and enjoy the classics in a whole new light.

Poor Audio Mix,
This review is from: Marvin Gaye Collection (DVD-Audio Surround Sound) (DVD Audio)
I purchased this disk along with others to play in my Acura DVD-A system. I found the overall audio quality to be a bit disappointing...and the mix to be a bit "over the top" with surround effects. Major vocals coming from rear speakers, etc.
I also found the overall sound to lack the brightness and crispness on this specific disk. In fact, the demo disk for my TL has the Marvin Gaye song "Let's Get It On" and it is remarkably brighter on that disk than on this collection. If you are looking for DVD-A disks with 5.1 surround...I'd pass on this one and maybe purchase the CD of this album.

The song list was good, but I was expecting more from the DVD-Audio. It sounded like any other CD
