Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell famously achieved the sympatico of true lovers on record, but not in real life, where they remained close friends. Hits such as "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "You're All I Need to Get By," collected here, brim with the joy of great vocalizing--some of Gaye's most inspiring swoops are in these grooves--and romantic ideals. Among this disc's finds is the lesser-known single "Keep On Lovin' Me Honey," two minutes and 29 seconds of orchestrated heaven that will burn into your brain and heart as indelibly as the big smashes. --Rickey Wright

Marvin and Tammi were the greatest duo to ever grace the microphone. Past, present or future, you can only GET to the level that these two wonders achieved. Their songs were filled with so much passion and true feeling. I've never listened to a duet with Marvin where he put as much feeling into the song as he does when singing with Tammi. All fans of both artists should have this cd, as well as The Story of Tammi Terrell.

You can never give a negative review on this pair of extremely talented artists. Their voices were truly magical. Sadly Ms. Terrell passed away in her early 20's and Mr. Gaye was also taken from this life far too soon.

Being a child of the 60's, I prety much know all of the lyrics to all of these songs, as well as just about the ENTIRE Motown catalog from the 60's.Out of all the GREAT Motown music that has been made over the last 50 years, if asked to recommend 10 cd's that would be classified as MUST HAVES, this one would be close to the top of the list along with my 3 favorite Motown artists The Temps,Marvin,& Stevie. You would be hard-pressed to find 3 better examples of Motown's musical magic and outstanding songwriting than AINT NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH,YOUR PRECIOUS LOVE,& AINT NOTHING LIKE THE REAL THING.I defy anyone to show me a duo whose recorded output has captivated more people for as long as these two amazing artists, and any whose recordings are still in demand and enjoying continuous airplay, even in today's more regimented radio station formats, and also considering the fact that they have both been deceased for over a quarter of a century.Simply put.Marvin & Tammi, along with Sam & Dave, were, and are still in my opinion:THE GREATEST RECORDING DUOS OF ALL-TIME.

Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell in the space of two albums packed in some of Motown's greatest treasures, both in the well-known hits and the intriguing album tracks. For the third album, with Tammi critically ill, Valerie Simpson took her vocals in a kind gesture from Motown to insure Tammi got as many royalties as possible from record sales and to keep the duo's momentum going should she be able to return to recording. It's Valerie on "Good Lovin' Ain't Easy To Come By" and "The Onion Song." In the studio, Marvin and Tammi were known as diligent artists, hard workers who strived to make everything as inspired at possible. Their recordings without exception represent the creme of Motown achievements as they inspired each other, challenged each other and truly loved each other as only friends can. What a loss both have been, but the music lives on.

I had no idea before, about what lovely Marvin Gaye's songs were, till I saw the film "Stay with me", (Sarandon-Roberts)-I don't know if this is the right title in English, here in Spanish we knew it as "QUEDATE A MI LADO"-, in which the song "Ain't no mountains high enough" is performed. I loved it. And since then, I've been really interested in knowing more and more about these two fascinating singers.

Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell were among the best-known duets of their time, the heyday of soul in the late 1960's, and deservedly so, even in Motown's stable, crowded with great performers. Gaye, of course, had many hits on his own, Terrell didn't, but together they were surefire; her pure voice beautifully complementing his more sensual one, backed by Motown's outstanding studio band, on such songs as "Your Precious Love,""Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "You're All I Need to Get By, and "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing," all written by the talented duo of Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson, as were most of their songs.

Their harmonies couldn't be beat: many listeners thought Terrell brought out the best in Gaye, who did, certainly, have many other hits. Some people tag "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" as one of the greatest dancing songs ever recorded; others point to the changes Gaye made in the song, from the also best-selling version by Gladys Knight and The Pips; Gaye's version actually told a story.

As is well-known, Terrell left us too soon, of natural causes, when she was barely hitting her stride. As is also well-known, Gaye also left us much too soon (he's one of the triumvirate of great soul singers, including Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, who left us much too young, and through regrettably violent deaths.) But Gaye and Terrell have left their soaring voices with us, and anybody who loves soul should have this record.
