5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging beginning reader with a Christmas-theme, December 27, 2010
Marvin wants to make a perfect Christmas present for his family. The problem is that his older sister May is better at art and writing than he is. Fortunately, his sister agrees to help Marvin and they make a beautiful Christmas wreath which Marvin places on their trailer. Everyone admires and loves the festive wreath but when Christmas is over, Marvin refuses to take the wreath down. As the days pass and the year ends, Marvin is still reluctant to discard his wreath. The months go by, and Easter arrives. This time, Marvin faces great pressure from his family to take the old, withered wreath down. Just when Marvin is about to relent, a surprise awaits him, and just might breathe new 'life' into Marvin's wreath! The story is engaging and my kindergartner could read this book with relative ease. I would characterize it as more of a Level 3 reader with more complex vocabulary and longer sentences.
