Mary Engelbreit has won a place in my heart over the years with her colorful illustrations, and lovable, oft-times zany characters. However, with A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS, Engelbreit has managed to combine each and every cheerful thing that accompanies the holidays, and place them all into one very unique, beautifully illustrated rhyming tale, that manages to give a child a lesson in the alphabet due to the fact that it is CELEBRATING FROM A TO Z.

If you are searching for a holiday book that will stay popular throughout the year, you can't go wrong with Mary Engelbreit's latest. The cheerful prose coupled with the breathtaking illustrations of a little mouse family preparing for the coming holiday will make readers young and old smile, while tossing them headfirst into the holiday spirit. An irresistible holiday book that must hold a place in everyone's home library!

Mary Engelbreit's A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS has quickly become my children's favorite holiday book. An A-to-Z story covering everything from angels to letters to Santa to a zillion ways that Christmas brings cheer, this is a wonderful story for either a beginning reader or any child at heart.

With absolutely beautiful illustrations and a rhyming storyline, A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS is a wonderful addition to any home library--or a perfect present for the child on your gift list. It's sure to please and bring a smile to the face of anyone who receives it; the fact that it's so cheerful will only add to your own holiday spirit!

My children constantly picked up the book to page through it. The illustrations are very sweet and the book was easy for my 4 and 6 year olds to read and enjoy on their own.

This book is absolutely beautiful!! The illustrations are just adorable. I love to read this book to my daughter. The illustrations are just captivating, you can stare at them for hours. It truly just takes you to a place of warmth, comfort and joy, and after all isnt that what the holidays are suppose to be about!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book. The Night Before Christmas is absolutely gorgeous as well!!

I love Mary Englebreit's art and her take on life. This was for my 6 yr old grandson and hope he enjoys it every year.

While I adore the illustrations and concept of the book, I had to do some editing of the text.
I am put off by the excessive (in my opinion) focus on presents, gifts, toys, and "what will santa bring."
Each page is devoted to a letter of the alphabet, and out of the 26 letters about 8 of them focus on the commercialism & gift-getting aspect.
Personally, we are trying to tone down this aspect of the holiday season so I've edited some of the references out and now it feels more in balance. However, since the text has a rhyme and rhythm to it, and the illustrations reflect the text, an edited version isn't quite right.

Many of the other pages are very lovely, so we will probably keep reading the book for the holiday season, although we will not read it as often as I had hoped.

Thank you for this cute little Christmas book. What a great way to learn your ABC's through the fun of Christmas.

My kindergartner brought back this book from school the other day, having checked it out of her school library. She was so excited that the moment she arrived home, she grabbed the book out of her backpack, and promptly informed me that she wished to read it to me. Never one to let an opportunity slip by, I settled down to hear her read this aloud to me. It is a wonderful holiday alphabet book that features little mice that prepare for Christmas in their miniature world filled with the delights of the season.

The book is laid out as an alphabet book, i.e. A is for...., but in rhyming form, which makes it an even more charming read. The full-color illustrations are a visual feast for the eyes. As much as I delighted in the rhyming cadences of my daughter's reading, we were both even more enraptured by the gorgeous illustrations. They are so vivid, and bring the miniature world of the mice to vibrant life. We get to see the mice decorating their tree, baking delectable goodies, etc. etc. The theme is on preparing for Christmas and enjoying the spirit of the season so there is lots of merry-making, and getting together with family and friends. We even get to see the mice 'elves' in action! This is a great book that will have little ones clamoring for repeat reads (we took turns reading it aloud in the week that my kindergartner had the book). A perfect holiday read!

The rhyming stanzas make for a fun read aloud and the magical illustrations transport you to the winter wonderland of a vintage storybook. I highly recommend this one and can easily see it becoming a holiday favorite.

This book was beautifully illustrated with much creative attention to details. My grandchildren and I loved this book. It will be a book we will look forward to reading every Christmas.
