5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, Sweet Video
I really enjoyed the video version of The Night Before Christmas. I can see this being a family tradition to watch each year. I got goosebumps when I saw the opening scene of the "mouse's house" - It really looked like the book! I was surprised, especially with the 3D animation. I also really enjoyed the Behind the Scenes bonus materials - especially the Meet Mary...

3.0 out of 5 stars would be 5 stars with better soundtrack
I bought this DVD because I have a two and a half year old at home and my wife is a huge M.E. fan (killed two birds with one stone). The artwork and story line were wonderful. Unfortunately you have to constantly adjust the volume (up - during parts where the characters are speaking) as the characters voices are constantly drowned out by the loud music.

The package said the video was only 23 minutes, but I think it's more like an hour with all the extra features. I really loved it and think Mary should be proud!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT NEW TRADITION!!!!, November 22, 2004
This review is from: Mary Engelbreit's The Night Before Christmas (DVD)
Just got a copy of Mary Engelbreit's The Night Before Christmas DVD! As a huge fan of Ms Engelbreit's art for years, I'm excited to see that she is not only into children's books, but animation as well. The DVD is FANTASTIC. The songs are great and the characters are adorable. My little girl is delighted with the Elliester fairy character and wants a doll just like her right away! Kudos to the Engelbreit team for making something special for kids.

After watching it about ten times I still haven't understood half the words Impelstick says (especially in his spells). And if I didn't know Clement C. Moore's story before, I still would not, as you can barely hear Kevin Kline's narration (his voice is just above a whisper). Overall I was disappointed with this DVD. I don't know what it would cost them to redo the soundtrack, but it would be worth it to create a true Christmas classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely adorable!, December 4, 2004
This review is from: Mary Engelbreit's The Night Before Christmas (DVD)
This is a wonderrful movie for little kids. It looks like a child's storybook of The Night Before Christmas magically brought to life, and the artwork is adorable. My six little grandchildren--ages 2-8--burst into giant smiles when the movie first began and never took their eyes off the screen.

The kids were totally enchanted by the endearing little mouse who sets off across the snowy forest to save Christmas. And the storyline kept them enthralled. At one point in the movie, the little mouse is lost and scared, whereupon a little girl fairy appears and encourages him on through a song, "Don't ever give up." The kids instantly got the message and have been singing the song ever since!

The movie is full of the joy and magic of Christmas. And for giving a child the dream of Christmas, it's a gem!

5.0 out of 5 stars All you have to do is just believe!, January 3, 2005
This review is from: Mary Engelbreit's The Night Before Christmas (DVD)
We've had so much fun with Mary Engelbreit's DVD over the holidays. Our kids played it over and over again, in fact they're playing it now. They're captivated by this wonderful telling of the Night Before Christmas story and it's easy to see why. Everything is first rate. Beautiful animation, great characters, great songs. And of course it's hard to beat Kevin Kline. But most of all I like the message. Anyone can be a child at Christmas, all you have to do is believe. I think open hearted adults will love this movie as much as kids do. It's already on my gift list for friends next year.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Christmas Tale to Share, November 30, 2004
This review is from: Mary Engelbreit's The Night Before Christmas (DVD)
I'm a huge Mary Engelbreit fan! While out of town for Thanksgiving, I picked up a copy of her Night Before Christmas. We have a DVD player in our car to entertain kids on long trips. As we drove home, our kids (son 3, duaghter 5) watched the show over and over again. They both are now singing "Never, ever, ever, give up!" The story and music are wonderful for kids this age -- and the animation keeps them glued to the screen! A copy of this precious show is now on its weay to my little nieces and nephews. Know they will love it too.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed in the quality, December 7, 2004

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mary Engelbreit's The Night Before Christmas (DVD)
I'm a huge fan of Mary Engelbreit and her book "The Night Before Christmas", but I was really disappointed in this DVD. Most of the charm of her artwork is lost in the translation to computer graphics. The computer animation is stiff and robotic, the "expanded" story is cliche, the songs schmaltzy and unmemorable. I'm sure young children will still like it, but I would suggest instead buying the book and reading it to your kids. It'll be much more meaningful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adorable & Sweet Christmas Story, December 20, 2004
This review is from: Mary Engelbreit's The Night Before Christmas (DVD)
I've always loved Mary's illustrations ... and seeing them "come to life" is incredible! I purchased the movie a few weeks ago, but this weekend shared it with my 9 year old niece. She LOVED it!!! After it was over she said ... "Can we watch it again?" And, we loved the extras of reading the book on the DVD and the coloring book. Fabulous! Bravo to Mary and the entire Mary Engelbreit Studios team. You did an incredible job, and have touched the lives of many who will celebrate Clement C. Moore's story in a new tradition!

This review is from: Mary Engelbreit's The Night Before Christmas (DVD)
I purchased the Mary Engelbreit DVD recently for my grandchildren. All three -- two girls and a boy -- love the story, the darling characters and the catchy songs. My daughter told me that the children are telling everyone to "just believe" and "never, ever, ever give up!" That's quite a Christmas message! My grandchildren have not stopped calling to say "thank you". It's exciting to have found a little gift they like so much.
