This is an exact reprint of the original, published in 1918, complete with all the original illustrations. The best thing about this book is that it has the young knitter learn to knit by making doll clothes, so the projects are quick to finish. There are even patterns for WW1 vintage military wear for your doll. These patterns could be adapted to fit American Girl dolls, I think.

I feel this way about both the sewing and the crochet Mary Frances books. I found out about them via a knitting blogger. I absolutely adore them. I even found a 100 year old "sewing bird" on ebay and bought it for my daughter and I to use and "talk" to. I've bought the modern version and a vintage version which looked about the same, as I still have not gotten a hand on the very old copies. These are just amazing books, and I love reading them to my 4yo. We put together a little sewing kit and knitting kit based exactly on the instructions in the book, a set for just my child. She loves it. I can't wait for her to get a little bit older and be able to really do the sewing and knitting properly as I know she will be so excited. These books are just wonderful and I will continue to be on the lookout for original or earlier printings as I think some of them my have color illustrations inside.
