A love story first and foremost,
By
This review is from: Mary & Joseph: Story of Faith [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I first saw this movie on television when I was a child. The story of the birth of Christ having always been my favorite in the Bible, I was thrilled to see it acted out. This movie gives you a 'what might have been' view of the lives of Mary and Joseph, something that the bible failed to give. Mary and Joseph where a young couple deeply in love, but the discovery of Mary's pregnency, plus Joseph's involvment with the Zelot's, almost drove them apart. We also get a look into the lives of Elizabeth and Zacarias, the parents of St. John. This movie give a completely human view of all characters in what is the most famous story in history.

Totally Contrived Romance Adventure But Nonetheless Entertaining,
By Robert (The Mountain of the Lord's House) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mary & Joseph: Story of Faith [VHS] (VHS Tape)
First and foremost, this film is in no way even remotely accurate according to the Biblical Scriptures. For example in this film Joseph is a sword-wielding Roman fighting Zealot warrior who is in league with Judas of Galilee, a scantily mentioned rebel in the Bible. The plot and romance is acted and written well enough but is completely contrived, however this in no way subtracts from the entertainment value of the film. The actor who played the young Clark Kent from the 1978 classic Superman: The Movie plays Joseph. This only adds to the film. Overall this is a solid Adventure Romance film set during the time of Christ. Biblical accuracy should not be expected when viewing this film.

Insights into why God chose Mary and Joseph,
This review is from: Mary & Joseph: Story of Faith [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My Gospel poem about this excellent film is here: tinyurl-dot-com/maryandjoseph and is based on what I saw of this film, thanks to The True Movies channels on Sky Digital. It may be repeated later, here in the UK, so check EPG listings. Google found extra details about this and the different title and links to various forum discussions. The images tab will help find more details. The IMDb website offers extra links and info on similar film titles such as The Nativity or The Nativity Story (Search for Mary and Joseph or Joseph and Mary). I found this film to have sensitive portrayals of the main characters, yet as with some Biblical films, there was a parental guidance warning. If the film was recorded to be shown to younger members of the family, then maybe it would be more helpful showing selected scenes as with some DVD Player Menu options. The IMDb website links to Amazon for the DVD and Video films, so we should check screen formats and customer reviews.
