5.0 out of 5 stars Way to go Mary-Kate & Ashley & Acclaim!
My wife and I purchased Mary-Kate & Ashley: Magical Mystery Mall last week and my daughters absolutley love this game! We think the graphics are great and the concept is terrific! Our daughters can't get enough of the game, and our son loves the snowboarding. We have been shopping for a title that we felt comfortable giving to our daughters and we love how they...

1.0 out of 5 stars Another failed attempt to reach girls and younger gamers.
While I applaud Acclaim for trying to reach genres other than the typical 15-25 year-old males that seem to make up most of the consumer base, I would think that most girls would feel a little demeaned that someone would think they would enjoy this game. Basically this game is a lot like Mario Party, except that it's not fun, it controls poorly, and the graphics are...

Hi my name is Jennifer. I got Mary Kate and Ashley last week for my birthday and I love it. I was making my christmas list on amazon looking for more games with them in it becuase I love Mary Kate and Ashley. It is so much fun to play. My fave part is the fashion show. You can dress them up in all different outfits and even change there hair styles. The best part of the game is that they look exactly like mary kate and ashley and you get to hear there real voices. My second fave part is the snowboarding level because i like to snow board and ski. this is my favorite game. i can't wait to get more mary kate and ashley games for christmas.

We all love to shop, and most 10-15 year olds love the Olsen's! So this awesome video game for Playstation is all about the Olsen's shopping! And no, you don't sit and watch them shop, you shop too! Each store in the mall (there are over 35 stores,) is packed with cool chlothes, accesories, and even sports equiptment! Then, when it is time for lunch you head into the Food Court and it is immediatly transformed into a 50's dinner and MKA are on blades!

5.0 out of 5 stars the best mary-kate&ashley game ever!, December 30, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Mary-Kate & Ashley: Magical Mystery Mall (Video Game)
This is the best Mary-Kate&Ashley ever! There are only stores you can play in.1)Fash is a really fun store. You dress Mary-Kate&Ashley with lots of hairstyles, clothes, and shoes. Then, you go to the fashion show and take pictures of every outfit. If you got good pictures of each outfit, you win a gem!2)Lizzie's Lunch is really easy. You serve people what they want on skates, but you have to do it quick before the customers get all mad and leave. If you get the right amount of money, you win a gem!3)Just Say Snow is fun,but kind of hard.First you choose a board, then you choose an opponent.I would say you choose Bridget Winters,Jeff Rockett, and I think this girl named Cadjet Summers. They are really easy to beat.If you win 2 heats in each slope, you win a gem!4)Music Nation was hard but I beat it anyway. You pick dance moves for your video. You can also choose the music, too. Then you record your video along with effects. You also have to submit your recording to the producer to win a gem.5)Catch A Wave is fun!You have to get pictures of the two new lifeguards with you in it.Also,if you get a shot of the DJ,
you get bonus points! There is a bonus boutiqe to unlock stuff or give you bonus stuff.I like this game because of all the cool things you can do.

A Kid's Review

Mary-Kate and Ashley Magical Mystery Mall is a really fun game for girls the ages of, I'll say, seven to fifteen. It's fun and funny and Mary-Kate and Ashley are in it. If you (or your kids, if you're a parent reading this) like Mary-Kate and Ashley, I would reccomend this game. It's really cool!

4.0 out of 5 stars The coolest MK&A game yet!!!, May 27, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Mary-Kate & Ashley: Magical Mystery Mall (Video Game)
I got magical Mystery Mall for Christmas in 2000. I think all is wonderful except the graphics are nothing close to realistic. It is sometimes frustrating, but it takes about one month to finish, so you can play fun games for gems, then when you finish the game you can go back and do it over and over again to practice for a new game!! You would love this game if you are at least 8 years old.

1.0 out of 5 stars Another failed attempt to reach girls and younger gamers., October 18, 2000
This review is from: Mary-Kate & Ashley: Magical Mystery Mall (Video Game)
While I applaud Acclaim for trying to reach genres other than the typical 15-25 year-old males that seem to make up most of the consumer base, I would think that most girls would feel a little demeaned that someone would think they would enjoy this game. Basically this game is a lot like Mario Party, except that it's not fun, it controls poorly, and the graphics are pretty bad.

It has the same color scheme of really poor NES and Atari 2600 games, despite being on the 32-bit Playstation. Apparently the art team (if there really was one) wanted to go for a hip color scheme, but unfortunately they're stuck in the 80's. All the textures, sprites, and models look like they came out of an episode of The Facts of Life or Saved By The Bell. Much of the game comes off looking like a 1st generation Playstation game with poor character animation, jumpy scrolling, static 2D 'cardboard' backgrounds, and colors that would give most people seizures.

The audio... Ick. 'Nuff said.

But all that aside, if it were actually fun to play, one could excuse the graphics and audio problems. At times it shows hints of ingenuity, but is mired down with sluggish controls, convoluted/stupid plot points, weak female stereotypes, and just a general lack of polish. Maybe if the developers spent more than 3 weeks on the game it would have shown more promise. This far, Bust a Groove 1 & 2 seem to still be the kings of the genre.

I speak as someone with experience in the industry, and an interest in developing games for girls... Hopefully when the rest of the development community realize that female gamers don't expect less from games, maybe they'll start hitting the mark more often. Girls aren't stupid, they know when they're being belittled, and they know what the Playstation is capable of in most cases. Even youngsters should know better. It's a shame that this game will be bought by many good-intentioned parents who just don't know better. The game development community still needs more practice in this genre, apparently. ....

3.0 out of 5 stars Great game, but not really good for younger kids., November 10, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Mary-Kate & Ashley: Magical Mystery Mall (Video Game)
This game isn't for younger kids, because it's pretty challenging, and it would bore them quickly. Some games I like some I didn't... It all depends where your interests lie. One game, you have to take pictures and pose with two lifeguard boys. It gets difficult because they get better at hiding from you, and you are scored on the direction they're looking, and how well you can see them. I thought it was pretty fun. Another game is a snowboarding game. It was fun for the first two rounds, but the last round got annoying. If you bump into a wall or anything, it's difficult to get going again, and you basically have no hope of winning the race. Collect snowflakes and unlock more snowboards. At the food court, you have to serve impatient guests the food they ask for. This gets annoying as your charactor is on rollerskates, so you don't end up where you want to be all of the time. There's a fashion game, where you can create 2-6 outfits for a fashion show. You pick hats/hairstyle, shirt, pants/skirt, and shoes. You pick their pattern and color, as well. Then you have to take pictures of the girls posing on the runway. I found this part a bit difficult, as I can never get the right angles. The last game is my favorite, one where you make your own dance video. You can pick your moves and even pop in your own CD and pick a track on it, so the girls can dance to punk rock, country, or whatever! Very great, and as you record the video, you choose special effects and camera angles. This part of the game is awsome I think. It worked out very well with the song I was using, and I wish I could've saved the dance. Overall, the game is challenging, but fun, and I sort of wish there were more activities. The replay value is OKAY on some games, but others it's just boring, and some of the walking around in the mall and other things run a bit choppy. I hope this review has helped!
