Thank you Mary Kay Ash for writing the words that I needed to read! Mary Kay's ideas may seem old fashioned to some, but I found them to be refreshing. It's nice to be reminded once in a while that God and Family should come before Career. This book is an inspiration to all women (not just those who like cosmetics and skin care) who want to be the best they can be at whatever it is that they do. The book will keep all women grounded!

Having worked with (yes these are real people) several of the women mentioned in this book...I can honestly say that it's not just another "I did it and you can do it too!" book. When someone actually decides to apply the principles in this book...your lifestyle will change.

Your Really Can Have it All,
By Clifton R. Johnton "C. Johnston" (White Hall, AR) - See all my reviews

With the right priorities (God, Family, Business) you can have it all. Read how a successful business woman broke out of the accepted mold, built her own business and gives you the tools to build your own. I find it amazing that Mary Kay put forth this model over 45 years ago and some corporations are still looking for it. The advice and wisdom in this book will help you reach your goals, whether as an Independent Beauty Consultant or just starting your own business.

So you thought Mary Kay was all about cosmetics!,

Book summarizes the many scenarios Mary Kay Ash has seen, of women in the workforce who have to deal with challenges of balancing family and career, earning enough money, finding satisfaction in their careers. Must read if you are dissatisfied with any of these scenarios in your life. The Mary Kay business offers a way out of the dilemmas, though discussing this is not the book's focus. Too bad Mary Kay, by Mary Kay Ash, is out of print. Phenomenal woman

I've read a few books either written by Mary Kay or written by another party and this book by far is the best I've read. I am a Mary Kay Senior Sales Consultant and have read several books to help me in my business, but this book goes beyond that. Yes, she gives wonderful advice on how to run ANY business, but it's more than just that. She also has wonderful stories and wonderful little lessons that can be applied to one's everyday life. Little life lessons I guess you could call them. So, this book is not just for somebody who is involved in the Mary Kay business, but for anyone who is self-employed and more importantly someone who is looking to improve on themselves as a person. I've read twice now and still learned new things the second time around.

Touching story...Too good to be true?,

This review is from: Mary Kay: You Can Have It All: Lifetime Wisdom from America's Foremost Woman Entrepreneur (Paperback)
This is a simple read, and, though I admit I skipped about a dozen boring pages, it was mostly engaging. I used to be a Mary Kay Consultant and I got this book for "free" upon placing my first 200 dollar order. This indicates that the Mary Kay company endorses this book as their official brainwash/I mean literature.
In this book Mary Kay retells many of her touching stories, mostly stories from when she was poor. She brags about her strength and character, and her good work ethics. She gives many examples of how she overcame difficult situations and found the bright side of everything. The moral of all these stories can be summed up as: Be nice, work hard, be optimistic, and believe in your "dream". We are constantly force fed these things as consultants to get us to spend more money on inventory. So I feel like I am reading a Mary Kay pamphlet. What I really think is that Mary Kay Ash was a shrewd woman who was calculating in everything she did, including writing this book for her consultants. However, I also believe that she was a very great person. She built her empire from scratch, purely out of her will and hard work. She was not afraid to make choices and gamble. She knew about what it was like to be poor. And I do respect her for that. But because how desperately this book wants to present itself as positive, and portray life as a great journey filled with little miracles whenever you need them...I cannot help but think that both Mary Kay Ash and the Mary Kay company think we are all stupid. In fact, her tone throughout this book is quite condescending. Also, I have a feeling like Mary Kay avoided a lot of things while writing this. I want to know the whole story, including all the dirty low down stuff. We all know that you can't get to the top being nice and sweet all the time. And I'm not interested in reading a fairy tale, which is what this is. I have first hand experience being a consultant, and I knew how the company uses all these techniques to trick us and manipulate us. Perhaps that is not Mary Kay's original intention, but I know these things came from what she started. If you are going to read this book, just read it as entertainment. Keep in mind that this is official Mary Kay propaganda, and most likely not the whole truth. A lot of people think Mary Kay was a sweet old lady, when in truth she was a smart millionaire. Ask yourself how much you can trust someone who was 1000 times richer than yourself. That's all. |
