Book Description

May 31, 2001
An inspiring aromatherapist shows how essential plant oils can change lives, allowing us to look younger and feel better.

"Mary Lee Patton's book brings together the wisdom of her ancestors with the hard-learned truths of a life dedicated to healing and beauty-the natural way."
-Shari Belafonte, actress, model, and television host

At twenty Mary Lee Patton suffered an accident that severely burned her face, neck, chest, and arms, adding twenty years to her appearance. Convinced there was something she could do about her condition, she turned to the teachings of her Native American upbringing for answers. After completely healing her burns through essential oil therapy, she went on to develop a line of products for all ages based on her own healing regimen.

Mary Lee's Natural Health & Beauty outlines a simple yet effective plan for revitalizing ourselves. Mary Lee's easy recipes and suggestions reveal countless secrets for enhancing our lives naturally:
¥ Essential oils kill germs without leaving toxic residue.
¥ An essential oil-based skincare regime keeps us looking younger longer.
¥ Different blends of oils treat a myriad of complaints from athlete's foot to cellulite.
¥ Lavender oil on your pillow stimulates deep refreshing sleep.
¥ Children can be kept safe and healthy with essential oils-Mary Lee recommends one for each year of their youth.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Lee's interest in essential oils was sparked by an accident that left her with second-degree burns on her face, neck, and chest. Her experimentation with lavender oil to treat her burns led to further study of the effects of plant essences. In clearly written, jargon-free text, she provides persuasive evidence for the effectiveness of these products in promoting health and beauty, citing numerous medical studies. Although she sells the products she recommends through her own company, Earth Tribe International, and cautions against cheap versions, Lee does not claim a monopoly on effectiveness. A good introduction to the concepts of aromatherapy and its underlying principles, this would be useful to alternative medicine collections in both public and medical libraries. Susan B. 2.0 out of 5 stars Controversial advice, August 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Mary Lee's Natural Health and Beauty: Healthy Living for Everyone, Everyday (Hardcover)
In all fairness the aromatherapy world is always evolving, but I did have to disagree with some of the essential oils Mary Lee was recommending for children, especially after my own training and certification in the field. The information she writes is not harmful, just not the most recent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful information, June 24, 2001

I have practiced Essential Oil Therapy for years, and I find this book to be the one I am now recommending. I disagree with the reviewer below, and doubt this person has read the book, as there are many, many essential oils mentioned that Mary Lee does not sell (as you can see in the appendix). Also, all of the stories I read in the book, whether it was a celebrity, or a mom like me, contained very practical information. They were heartwarming as well, which makes it more enjoyable! This book is so easy for the novice, or the experienced to pick up, read, and put into practice immediately. I can also say, as an avid reader of books on health, essential oils and herbs, that I applaud the author for her section on safety. Too many books throw out information without the general precautions. I highly recommend this book for everyone.

I found this book very interesting as a beginner for Essential Oils and Aromatherapy. This is my first time ever been expose to this. I could understand clearly what the book was talking about, and is written for people to understand specially beginners that are interested in using Essential Oils and Aromatherapy in a regular basis in their routine life, I call this book the Essential Oils and Aromatherapy 101.
