A beautiful addition to the body of Magdalene material...,
By Kathleen McGowan "NYT Bestselling Author, www... (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Mary Magdalene Within (Paperback)
Joan Norton has created something truly special with her small but mighty book. This lovely, experiential account of Mary Magdalene, her days with Jesus, and their teachings together is layered with wisdom and beauty. A must read for those who are on this path of discovery.
Let me also say that as a trained investigative journalist and researcher, I do not normally embrace channelled material quickly or openly. However, Joan's book feels incredibly pure to me and I found all of my reservations melting rapidly away as I read. In fact, while my own research on Mary Magdalene brought me to some very different conclusions, I realized while reading Joan's book that none of that mattered. It is the message that matters - a message of divine union and love, of restoring balance and equality, of making that kind of harmony the natural state for all people - that truly matters. The rest is just details. I am finding that Mary and her message speak to everyone in a unique and personal way, all of which are valid and fascinating. With that realization, Joan's work truly taught me something powerful for which I am very grateful. I also applaud the layout of this book. The short chapters make it a perfect tool for meditation and/or teaching, something that I think is unique in the currently available Magdalene material. Margaret Starbird, the brilliant author and pioneer of Mary Magdalene's legacy, calls this "a remarkable book." I couldn't agree more. Thanks, Joan. What a gift you have given us!

The Real Story of Jesus,
This review is from: The Mary Magdalene Within (Paperback)
This is it! The Mary Magdalene Within brings alive the real love of God through the incarnate Jesus in a way that has never before been described. It is the love of God expressed through the story of the living man Jesus as he loves the living woman Mary Magdalene and through this ordinary yet miraculous relationship reaches God's oneness--- man with woman both in and of God --- true love. It is a love we as humans can embrace and understand.
As a Christian from birth and a woman, my personal struggle has been to understand Jesus' message in a way that is meaningful to my life. In my experience and in the experiences of many, many women the church's teachings have felt hollow, unapproachable, and abstract. I was taught that Jesus' love was an ethical love. I said hundreds of times, "Father, Son, and Holy Ghost" --- two men and a genderless and disembodied spirit. This was a sort of love I could not understand and had never experienced. How could this love apply to me and my life? Joan Norton in this book has shown us the complete story of God's love experienced through Jesus and his love for Mary. It is a deep and stunning story that corrects and humanizes the sanitized modern version of Christianity that has left out the females and the feminine. This book is a gift to all humans but especially to us women who wonder why Christianily has forgotten that God's love for women needs to be told if the story is to be complete and whole.

THE MARY MAGDALENE WITHIN Me Awakens,
By Sandra Pope, author of GROWING UP WITHOUT TH... (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Mary Magdalene Within (Paperback)
The first time I read Joan Norton's THE MARY MAGDALENE WITHIN, I felt my heart open. I identified with Mary Magdalene initially because I thought of her as an outcast. But as I immersed myself in the book, I came to know a very different Mary Magdalene. This Mary Magdalene was Jesus' wife, equal, and teacher. This Mary Magdalene was not the outcast; she was the goddess.
I read the book a second time, one chapter a day as my daily meditation for almost a month. I wanted the Mary Magdalene energies revealed in the book to awaken within me. They are. I am remembering my own goddess-self. That is the nature of this holy book of revelation. That is its beauty and power.

Words of Wisdom,

This review is from: The Mary Magdalene Within (Paperback)
In this excellent, first-person narrative of Mary Magdalene's life, author Joan Norton focusses on Mary's life as a female and equal partner to Jesus. The result is an insightful look at the life of the woman who knew and loved Jesus as both Messiah and man. The radiance of Mary's vision is mirrored in the author's inspired words. Simply brilliant.

this is a very interesting and controversial book. I read it after I read The Expected
One by Kathleen Mcgowan..which I resonated with very strongly..this book is a channeled book.. it tells of the deep and passionated love between Jesus and Mary Magdalene...It is beautiful, sensual and esotereic in it's approach..I believe this kind of information will become more and more available as the feminie principal is restored as the missing link of true Christianity..

A Unique and Inspiring Book,
By
This review is from: The Mary Magdalene Within (Paperback)
The Mary Magdalene Within is a unique and powerfully moving book. This little gem of a book is not to be missed! This book of channeled writing delivers a profound teaching from the voice of Mary Magdalene. I believe, as many do, that Mary Magdalene was a Priestess of the Old Ways, a Priestess of the Mother Goddess. There are many now alive who will channel the Mother Earth energy for a bruised and bleeding planet. As we have learned so much about, "The Father", it is now time to learn about our Mother, the Great Goddess of 10, 000 names. SHE of the sacred heart who will not ignore the cries of her children. Mary Magdalene is a channel for the Goddess energy, as all women are, and I agree with Joan when she states, "Her consciousness is alive to many at this time". The Magdalene is a role model, a healer, and a woman who continues to share her wisdom with those who have ears to hear and the heart to understand that wisdom.
This work also confirms the fact that Jesus was an extraordinary man who loved and respected women. Jesus spoke of a new age, a golden age of love, when the imbalance between the two forces of nature would be rebalanced. There are many who have incarnated at this time to bring forth the new age of Wisdom. We are in this Age now when new knowledge will be discovered, and when "Wisdom" will be remembered. It is has been Jesus himself, through books, movies, and art who has uplifted, and who will continue to uplift the role that Mary Magdalene played in his life. Through his love for Mary Magdalene, a new story of balance, respect, and love between men and women will be revealed to the world. This is the true secret. The Mary Magdalene Within also confirms that Jesus and Mary Magdalene taught the Way of the Heart - the Way of Love. I see this book as an initiatory guide that when read with an open heart, the wisdom of its words can be experienced through Gnosis, direct knowing. Jesus taught many things: healing, love, forgiveness, but at the heart of his teachings he sought to bring about enlightenment to the world through his partnership with Mary Magdalene. He saw himself as equal to Magdalene, and to all other women - an equal partnership of divine union between male and female that will heal the world. C.A. Thomas, Author of King and Queen: The Greatest Love Story Ever Lived.

Enter with an Open Mind,
By
This review is from: The Mary Magdalene Within (Paperback)
This book is channeled material and offers a new perspective on the time period during Jesus' life as a prophet. It pushes the boundaries of the more accepted Christian version of the story of Jesus while describing the repression and "position" of women at that time.
Though I am skeptical of anyone who claims to channel beings...I read this book with an open mind. Since this book did not claim to teach a "way to believe", only to share a story, I remained open to what the author wanted to share. If anything, it would have been great to learn more about Mary Magdalene's views of her own experiences with healing and herbs and how this helped form her life, rather than so many pages on how she aligned with Jesus' teachings...but maybe that's another book.

Comment worth repeating...,
By
This review is from: The Mary Magdalene Within (Paperback)
Passed on to me from a friend were these powerful comments about THE MARY MAGDALENE WITHIN from Michael Joseph, author of THIS IS HEAVEN CALLING EARTH: DIALOGS WITH DIANA: "I showed your illuminating book to one of England's leading scholars of the Ancient Wisdom, and he immediately replied: "What has never even been considered is that the Magdalene WAS the Christ consciousness all those years ago, and initiated Jesus into it!" A 'Sun of God' means one who has been initiated by the Priestess of God (or Godess, in fact) into becoming a being of Light! SHE fills him with Light - not the other way round! What a tragedy that women have been forced to play a subservient role in the affairs of the world, thanks to the machinations of the powers-that-be... THE MARY MAGDALENE WITHIN will do much to right this great injustice."

I write this seconds after finishing my first read of this affirming and energizing book. Suspend all belief or disbelief, hold all questions aside, just read this book with an open heart and an open mind, from beginning to end without stopping or thinking, if possible. Let it download into the ground of your being, the crucible of Truth, and let it speak to you from there. I was lead to it out of curiosity alone .prompted by wisdom teacher Cynthia Bourgeault's recent book on Mary Magdalene. Although I had one unexpected spiritual encounter with Mary's witness to Jesus' death and suffering, (interestingly in this account she was not at the crucifixion), I had no great call to understand who Mary Magdalene really was and I certainly have no experience with, or interest in, channeling. What I found was a biblical account of Jesus that suddenly made perfect sense to me as a teaching, despite the violence of Constantine to the early Christian writings. I found here in this book, a Jesus I had always known and loved. This is the first other voice that has ever described that Jesus, described knowing that Jesus. This book , according to Joan Norton, is a channeling of Mary Magdalene and what she wanted to say to our time now on earth about Jesus and about her relationship with him on earth then and now, after death. Interestingly Norton had no interest in channeling or Mary Magdalene either. Channeling just happened to her out of a long, intense, deeply interior searching to connect with her dead daughter ( with whom she has still never "spoken")..This writing, "announced" to her as Mary Magdalene speaking, just poured out of her over two weeks and she says she wrote it down without trying to edit it interpret or understand it. That is how it should be read, as well. The Jesus that the Mary Magdalene here speaking shares, says his life was about a complete trust in the "Godself" within..that the teachings and events recounted in the new testament were of a life lived in the moment and responding to what was around him in complete trust in God..in complete surrender to God's love and compassion for earth . As a teaching this work reminds me most of Raimon Panikkar's teaching only more simple and more accessible.
As a contemplative who sometimes turns to teachings ,old and new, to understand what is happening in my spiritual journey, I am often disappointed at how super encrusted these texts are with scholarship, theology, deference to the Church and fear of going too far and saying too much. Pannikar is hard work. Tomberg is hard work. Thomas Keating is hard work. The gospel of Phillip, the Pistis Sphia, the Sophia Jesus and many other esoteric early christian writings, all very hard work. Even Cynthia Bourgeault is sometimes hard work..takes a bit of mining and excavation and sorting to get to the kernel that is the treasure, that is the teaching. Here in this work that is not so. It is clear and simple, not hampered by duty to scholarship, theology, the church or reputation. To me it is fresh and alive and feels right about Jesus. |
