As someone born on the Eastern Shore, I can say that this book was a joy to read. It gave me some perspective on the history of the Eastern Shore, although I think sometimes got bogged down in esoteric details of little interest to most readers. The real benefit of this book was the outsider's view of the culture. The author does a fine job of characterizing the people of the Eastern Shore, and for that alone this book is worth reading for the interested insider or outsider.

A very good book for what it is written for. A great Detailed overview of the Eastern Shore. Not too much detail to bore you and a broad enough scope in time and events to allow you to put the book down after reading it and be able to intelligently talk about the SHore.

I bought this book so I could get some fun facts and interesting comments to stimulate conversation at our family get together over the holidays. We hosted an Eastern Shore themed party and I displayed blurbs from the book and the old folks from the native Eastern Shore were able to relate and talk about their memories. If you are a Native Eastern Shoreman/woman, you will enjoy this book.
