This review is from: Mary's Message to the World (Paperback)
From time to time many of us have had the fantasy that words, used in perfect combination, could somehow change the world. Or perhaps we dreamed that ordinary sentences in todays language could somehow make us willingly change ourselves. Many people would say that such a book has been written, or more exactly, dictated to Annie Kirkwood. In 1987, Annie began to feel the presence, and hear the messages of the Virgin Mary. Annie's disbelief, resistance, and acceptance is a story in itself, but what remains are Mary's messages of great importance to us all. The Kirkwoods, Annie and Byron, have received many letters about this book. Most of the writers relate of what has already been mentioned, lives have been changed, or that this is a most important book for our times. Others have told me that it is like the information of the Bible: concise, easy to read, and every bit as compelling. What I and others are trying to say is that an important book has been written, a book of great power and scope. Contained in the ten chapters are warnings, predictions, Mary's and Joseph's life on earth together, a message to every family and the world, sections on love, ourselves as spirit, prayer, the aftertime, and a message from Jesus. In the world today are many children and adults who are contacted by Mary and pass those messages along to us. The messages contain a consistancy, love, and urgency in what is relayed, and these thoughts continue in "Mary's Messages". Mary calls for a return to God, to prayer, and preparation for changes. Many serious predictions are spoken of and have occured, while other disturbing changes remain. In a recent newsletter mailed by the Kirkwoods, Mary has explained that predictions are given to capture our attention. In some cases, the events recorded in this book (published in 1991) have been pushed back or diminished because of our prayers and favorable actions. She has explained that these are days of grace, that the predictions in the book whose dates have passed have not lapsed, but that we have been given additional time before their occurence, a gift. This is a deeply spiritual book, without the limits of organized religions, ringing truthfully and clearly. Perhaps, as so many have said, this is the book we have been looking for

5.0 out of 5 stars A MESSAGE UNLIMITED, February 25, 2000
By A Customer
This message, being addressed to all men/women, is aimed at enlarging the consciousness of the narrow-minded who are of the persuasion that God is subject to their particular religion and not the other way around. What a wonderful book. I have read it over and over. The content of the message is its strength. Read it, and you will not need convincing. Its impact is profound and leaves you with a deeper sense of the truth and the largeness of truth, as opposed to the "We're right and everyone else is wrong" mentality. Read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Be open-minded, November 20, 2001

This review is from: Mary's Message to the World (Paperback)
Dear potential readers:

A few thoughts.

If you don't like "channeled" material, I wouldn't recommend this book. Like most channelled literature, the average skeptic will beat themselves up over the method of delivery, and barely be able to stomach the message itself.

If you aren't open-minded, this book will most likely result in a headache. Perhaps that is good for some.

My father, who is a staunch Catholic, says that the Bible clearly indicates that "prayer changes prophecy", so please keep an open mind when the prophecies in dispute don't jive with our current timeline.

This book wasn't channeled like Seth, in that the continuity between chapters isn't as smooth. It doesn't read as "booklike". This is in part because certain chapters were included based on an editor's interest. Those readers of the "Michael Material" will understand what I mean.

A very good read. I have had a conversion of heart. I also love correlating this stuff with Emmanual, Micheal, Seth, and even the Bible and so far have found mostly unifying theory.

Good wishes on everyone's inevitable search for God within.

I have read this book three times and every time I read it I get more out of it. It gives a message for the present day that is clear and not hidden in allegory and riddle.

1.0 out of 5 stars Will the real Mary please stand up?, January 25, 2008

This book claims to contain the messages of Mary, the mother of Jesus, to Annie Kirkwood. It includes some specific predictions that Mary is alleged to have made in the late 1980s. Let's look at a few of them:

1. There will be famines in the countries which have had wars.
2. After the turning of the Earth (whatever that means), there will be two suns.
3. In 1994 New York will be flooded and will have to be evacuated.
4. In 1995 the sea will cover part of California.
5. Before 2000, Japan will fall into the sea and become a frozen wasteland.

The first of these predictions is pretty obvious, because famines are usual features of war-ravaged countries. It's a bit like predicting that someone who goes swimming will get wet.
As for the others - well, they seem to shatter "Mary's" credibility, don't they?

As a comparison, let's look at the 1917 apparition of Our Lady of Fatima, in which Mary predicted that, if her requests for prayer and reparation were not followed, World War I would soon end but would be followed by a worse war - which is exactly what happened.
She also predicted that Russia would spread error throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church. This prediction made no sense at the time, but then the Russian Revolution happened, and the Soviet Union, in a campaign of blood and lies, took over the Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Czechoslovakia and Bulgaria - all of which commenced persecuting the Church.

So which Mary proclaimed the truth?

5.0 out of 5 stars Moved me to action in my life, February 16, 1999
Even though some of the preditions have not come true, I believe they were lessened by the power of prayer. I have seen a remarkable change in people because of these and other messages from Mary, especially Medjugorie. What I especially liked about this book is it appeals to all people whether they have a religion or not.. I have hesitated to pass on my books on Medjugorie because they sounds too Catholic. Being a Catholic I don't want to give others the impression that I think they need to be Catholic or any religion to further their spiritual growth. This book is one I can give to my non-Catholic friends to help them understand the importance of Our Lady's messages. It has been very helpful in reaching my non-practicing Catholic husband. He is a good, moral man, but doesn't like formal religion. I obtain alot of benefits from Catholic practices, besides, I'm too Irish not to be Catholic!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Vision of Hope, October 26, 2005
This review is from: Mary's Message to the World (Paperback)
I am a Catholic and I say devotional prayers to Mary, so in the bookshop, Kirkwood's book "Mary's Message to the World" appealed to me. But initially, when I had read parts of the book, I was confused. Does the book tell the Truth ?? In answer to that, I said to myself, Oh well! Back to basics, to the foundation of my religious convictions.

I drew up a checklist, and compared the statements made in the book against my checklist. The checklist is a simple one. Firstly, faith (or trust) in God through prayer. Secondly, one should follow the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth as summarized in the Beatitudes, etc (Mt 5, etc). Or, even more succinctly, Pray to God and show goodwill and empathy to one's fellow man. Thirdly, Catholic mystics claim that God does speak to oneself from within. The more one is steeped in prayer, then the more one will perceive God within oneself.

So, in general, does Kirkwood's book contradict any one of these tenets ? I think it does not. In fact, I think that the book supports all three of these tenets. Also, the book supports the fundamental Christian (and Catholic) tenet of only one God, the Creator of mankind and the universe, together with the one God, manifested as the Trinity - God the Father, Jesus the Messenger, and the Holy Spirit.

Now, what of specific issues mentioned in the book. Predictions and prophesy, especially, stand out like a sore thumb. But, prophesy is primarily a call to conversion. The predictions are a warning of what may happen if that call to conversion is ignored. The predictions are not unconditional claims. We need only remind ourselves that in the book of Jonah, Nineveh was converted and was not destroyed. Also, Jesus said in Act 1:7 "it is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by His own authority". And elsewhere, outside of the Bible is the beautiful comment: "do not say ... 'How much of what you predicted to us has not come true!' Instead, give thanks with me to the heavenly Father, because at the response of your prayers and your suffering, and on account of the immense suffering of so many of my poor children, again He alters the period of Justice, to permit the period of the great Mercy to come to flower ... ". Also, in Kirkwood's book, is a comment that is frequently repeated, and is interwoven with the predictions. It is, that if one is connected with God the Creator in prayer, then one need not be afraid of those predictions. And in the Bible, how often does one come across God's reassuring remark "do not be afraid, I will be with you" ?

So, if you are a Catholic, and the mystical, spiritual writers appeal to you, then reading the book is somewhat like preaching to the converted. But, the book may appeal to you. If you are a non-Catholic, then relax, because the book does not try to promote any popular Catholic Marian devotion. If you do not belong to any of the mainstream religious denominations, and you are sincerely searching for spiritual or religious Truth, then ignore the secular stuff, and then you will find that the book is most definitely well worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars You must be ready to read this book, January 13, 2004
This review is from: Mary's Message to the World (Paperback)
Annie Kirkwood has written an important book. I personally believe that Annie Kirkwood's book is a message from Mary, but even if you do not believe, this book holds important truths. Mary's asks us to return to God. This is her main message, and she shows us how to pray and meditate. Mary also gives us details of Jesus's birth and childhood. I loved this part of the book because it made Mary and Jesus and Joseph more real to me. This is the "real" Christmas story as told by Mary. Mary also teaches us about our spirit and purpose here on earth. These messages are so important for us to learn. If you read the book for no other reason, read it to learn about our spirit world. The predictions of the future of Earth and mankind is a big focus of this book. Some of the dates for these predictions have passed, but this does not lessen the impact of the book at all for me. You will receive more from this book if you are open to the message. This book teaches that we are spirit and eternal, that we are all one. One religion is not better than another. The importance is to return to God and to love. I suggest reading "Conversations with God vol. 1" by Neale Donald Walsch also.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stands the Test of Time, March 27, 2011
By
I first read Mary's Message to the World shortly after its paperback publication in the early 1990s. I recently revisited it in March 2011, shortly after the Japan earthquake and tsunami.

On re-reading, this book appears prescient. While the timing of the predicted cataclysms is off (the book predicts massive climate and earth changes by 2000), the events foretold have begun to occur. Climate change and environmental depredation are widespread. Earth changes, including the Indonesian tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, and the devastating earthquakes in Haiti, Chile and Japan, are becoming increasingly common. I am sad to say that the predictions contained in this book appear to be starting to unfold.

The spiritual message of this book is simple, timeless and ecumenical: Pray to God in whatever form you find Him. Seek and practice Peace, in your personal life, in your work and in the world. There is no chosen religion and no chosen people: all are chosen.

Even if the predictions contained in this book do not manifest, its advice is well worth following. Ms. Kirkwood's prose is beautiful, healing and uplifting, and the recommendations for spiritual renewal are sound. I highly recommend this lovely book.
