2.0 out of 5 stars Weird. Really weird.
This may be the weirdest story I've ever read.

Here's the idea: Santa Claus, the real one, shows up at this kid's house, and proceeds to magically transform her and another child, by showing them 'the true meaning of Christmas'. This includes such acts as making an empty bag fill with gifts for orphans....by praying over it. And magically transporting the kids...

This is a fantastic book that truly embraces and explains the reason for the season and modernizes the story so that even today's children can relate. It really is a beautiful story and would be great to share with your kiddos, especially ages 7+. It is no wonder this book is the winner of 3 Mom's Choice Awards...it is a beautiful story:)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Christmas Present!, November 20, 2010
This review is from: Mary's Son: A Tale of Christmas (Hardcover)
I picked up this book by recommendation of a friend. It is an easy read with an important lesson making it great as a bed time story during the Holidays or a good book to curl up next to the fire with and finish in one sitting. This is one of those books you can't put down until you have read it in it's entirety. Mary's Son is about the TRUE meaning of Christmas through the eyes of a well known jolly man, a wealthy little girl, and a little boy from the poor side of the city. Great book for Christmas-time! Makes a great gift for friends and family. I have already bought multiple copies to give as presents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Touching story with a message we should hear year-round!, November 20, 2011
This review is from: Mary's Son: A Tale of Christmas (Hardcover)
As soon as I turned the last page of Mary's Son, I couldn't wait to write and post this review. What a wonderful story!

Mary's Son is about a teenager, Jared Roberts. He has a chip on his shoulder, thinks the world owes him something for the misfortune that has landed in his lap, and he is one angry teenager...especially at the Stone family. He thinks they are responsible for his father's disappearance, his family's misfortune, and he is determined that they pay. With a group of his friends in tow, he sets his sights on the Stone mansion, determined to take a little of what he feels he deserves.

Eleven-year-old Sarah Stone is just as angry. She is surrounded by wealth and material things - but with a household of servants at her disposal, and anything that money can buy, she is still the loneliest girl in the world. She would trade it all for just a bit of attention from her father, but since she doesn't have it, she takes it out on everyone around her.

A brat and a brawler, both too absorbed in themselves to see the world around them, that is until Nicholas arrives. Nicholas, the sweet old man that looks suspiciously like Santa Claus, sweeps into their lives and tries to divert them from the destructive path that they are on. But the too refuse to change, and Nicholas must take them back in time to the first Christmas, before it is too late.

What a beautiful story for tweens, teens and adults alike! The two kids will frustrate you and break your heart at the same time. And the message is one we should hear, not just during Christmas, but all year round. It is a poignant reminder that everyone has a story, and if we just look a little closer (not just on the surface), we will find a heart yearning for love - God's love.

This was the greatest story that a Christian can tell their children that want to believe in Santa Claus. How he is here to help use celebrate the birth of Christ and celebrate his birthday. Such a blessing to all that read it or here it retold.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Little Christmas Story!, November 29, 2011

St. Nicholas is sent to lead two children into a relationship with God by reminding them of the true focus of Christmas, God's Gift to them--JESUS. From that realization flows love and its fruits, selflessness and generosity. Not only are the children changed for the better, but also their families and their community. Nicholas is presented as being constantly in communication with God to complete his mission. I LOVED it! This is an excellent, short catechetical novel; highly recommended Christmas reading. Thanks, bunches! O:-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific for all ages, February 28, 2011

This review is from: Mary's Son: A Tale of Christmas (Hardcover)
I just finished Mary's Son and was caught by surprise at the impact of the story. Simply, but very well written, it is suitable for younger readers. And maybe that is what surprised me--because it was relatively short and easy reading, I didn't expect such a powerful punch. Didn't want to put it down and finished in a few hours.
