5.0 out of 5 stars Funk Fest 2000 !!!, September 12, 2000

3 words: BUY THIS ALBUM!!! These guys (Suicidal Tendencies in disguise) have outdone themselves again! This album, Mas Borracho, lets me reminisce they days of the old Red Hot Chili Peppers' albums like Freaky Styley. They even threw in keyboards on a couple of songs! If you like slap bass and wah wah guitar this album, which is almost pure funk, is for you. The older Infectious Grooves albums which are also cool, had a little bit of a harder edge to them (like the new Suicidal Tendencies Album, Free Your Soul and Save My Mind). I love it all. Hopefully Cyco Miko and gang get all the recognition they deserve!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Back to Funky Form!, February 12, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Mas Borracho (Audio CD)
After the heavy and exceedingly violent "Groove Family Cyco", I thought for sure that the IG's had wandered too far into the same territory occupied by many of today's angry rap-metal bands, unfortunately. It was my impression that IG was an outlet for the Suicidal Tendencies bunch to explore different ideas, musically and thematically. I was stoked upon listening to their latest CD, "Mas Borracho", that they have returned to the funky, often humorous form of their 1st (and my favorite) album, "The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move".

The new stuff is just amazingly fun to listen or thrash to. "Mas Borracho" rocks, funks and blows you away with superlative musicianship, in your face bass, dualing heavy and jangling guitars, and a great new drummer. Bassist Robert Trujillo truly deserves as much recognition as Flea or Les Claypool for being an absolute master of the bass guitar. The lyrical content of the songs is a journey in itself, but the mood created is much more uplifting, less heavy and dark than "Groove Family". I applaud Mike Muir, Robert Trujillo, Dean Pleasants, and company on producing a sonically awesome and truly enjoyable CD.

All in all, this disc gets 4 stars ("The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move" is hard to beat at 5 stars - Get that CD if you can find it!) Essential listening if you're a fan of the thrash/funk rock genre. Peace!

3.0 out of 5 stars Funky enough, but not heavy enough!!, November 13, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Mas Borracho (Audio CD)
Just picked up Infectious Grooves most recent album Mas Borracho and, I must say, it wasn't what I expected. The thing that made the first three albums so special was the delicate mixture of heavy rockin' riffs and clean guitars, with an explosive, funky bassline!!! Borracho has its moments, but not enough the make it a truly great CD like the others. Previous songs like, "Do the Sinister", "These Freaks are Here To Party", and "Why?" had this classic combination I really miss on this new album. Maybe, after a few more spins through the CD player, I might truly appreciate and love this new sound like the others. It might take some time to get used to, but I'm sure it will grow on me.
