Music once banned by the Marcos govt., June 27, 2006
This review is from: Masdan Mo Ang Kapaligiran -- Philippine Tagalog Music CD (Audio CD)
ASIN means, 'Salt', as in, "The Salt of the Earth".
Their music was once banned by the Marcos govt. It was considered subversive and they were known to be Pro-NPA.
But these are folk songs. Simple, direct, to the point. Most of their songs are about life & family, but some are political...like the suffering of native hill tribe peoples, and the over-developement of a country that is fast seeing it's natural beauty dissapear.
The once 'Pearl of the Orient', Philippines, is becoming 'The Sewer of the Orient', and this band tried to warn everyone about it.
Marcos was just upset that the truth was being told thru their music.
The music is acoustic, with rich vocals, backed-up by some traditional instruments.
Song #4, 'Ang Bayan Kong Sinilangan', is a national folk song.
There is nothing subversive about this music.
I own this album. It is beautiful.
