Book Description

March 24, 2009
A mystical artifact from the ancient past, the relic known only as the Mask imbues its wearer with nearly limitless power - face-stretching, mallet-forming, clock-smashing power! Slap the Mask on your mug and nothing is beyond your reach - or the reach of a pie with a bomb in it - which is why every crook, grifter, creep, hood, miscreant, scofflaw, and other words in the thesaurus are out to get their mitts on it. The hunt for the valued vizard (thanks again, thesaurus!) goes from sea to shining sea, involving Voodoo, Amazonian tribesmen, ninjas (sweet!), Mafiosi, Crypto-Nazis, and the Bardard Thespian Club!

4.0 out of 5 stars No masking the great stories in this book!, March 19, 2009
This review is from: The Mask Omnibus Volume 2 (Paperback)
The Mask is a truly interesting concept. Just as Jim Carey pulled if off very successfully on screen, the fine writers and artists in this book do the same thing.

Bizarre. Twisted. One degree off normal. Yep, three phrases that describe this collection very well. We find our trapped hero and his daughter taking hallowe'en via the mask, and getting into more than they can handle. Voodoo, amazonian tribewmen, ninja.s and even newly christened Thespians include the out of control masked man.

This is no Lone Ranger. And the art is not by the steady Tom Gill, but rather Evan Dorkin, Kyle Hotz, Bob Fingerman, Peter Gross, John Arcudi, Doug Mahnke, and Sibin contribute tales and pictures. The packaging is excellent. Relive the insanity!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars This big head killer is not always horrific to the extreme in blood and gore in which the humour would be much better without, July 4, 2010

This review is from: The Mask Omnibus Volume 2 (Paperback)
As with all Dark horse comics they are horrific to the extreme and not for the faint hearted in little kiddies to read it as a book. The Mask Omnibus volume 2 is a collection of over 380 pages of not so horrible soaked blood and gore coloured comic book lore which is a follow on from volume 1. We all know the premise of the story line,by now a character comes into possession of a mystical magical mask left behind by the all time famous trickster god Loki of the viking legend from the ancient past, and this tricky playful mask imbues it's wearer with limitless cartoon character powers which is invulnerability and immortality, and what is left from it is a tribute to mayhem violence blood and gore to the max, face stretching, mallet forming clock smashing nothing is beyond reach. Naturally every crook in the country wants it they because they will stop at nothing to obtain it, all the wearers in the comic book series instead unfortunetly wreak havoc when wearing it blood and gore is the theme then, each and every character that wears the mask use these new powers to wreak havoc, here is where the comic stories differ considerably from the movie and the animated series. The first volume collected the bulk of Arcudi and Mahnke volume 2 is a collection of a few years after the 1994 movie with Jim Carrey. There are a number of story arces in it such as The southern discomfort story arc which is about it's current heroic not so bloody keeper eric martin who has no grudge or revenge aganist anyone and is searching for his long lost sister jill in new orleans of america during the mardi gradi parade because he has sacrificed all of his life earnings and savings from finding and keeping his sister jill from the evil manpulative vodoo papa croc. Without going through the entire storylines of the book, the stories are intriguing in it with lots of mayhem thrown in aswell that goes from one full extreme to the next fuller lesser bloodless extreme, from voodoo, ritualistic Amazonian tribesmen, to ninjas, and mafia bosses aswell thrown in with dash of small fries to accompany it. Worth a read great read for any graphic comic book lover of the cartoon humour genre then there's plenty of it in this book worth reading. otherwise if not into the blood and gore of this s then you can give this ominbus volume 2 collection a miss as a genre of cartoon humour worth reading. Otherwise if you're looking for the movie and animated series continuation of comic book series without the blood and gore in it then this somehow not it, unfortunetly because you're obviously looking for graphic comic that's worth reading with no detail left out on where the transformation is deceptively ugly considering the idea behind the mask where the wearer turns into an instant insane killer is a obvious sure fire way not to have been missed in reading finally . In the (1994) movie the memorable quote is SSSSSSSSSSSmokin' from stanley ipkiss'es loki trickster alter ego the green headed bucked toothed mask instead in this unfortunetly the comic book quote from the series would have to be ssssssskilling.
