A set of pretty little bowls like these six soon becomes indispensable in both kitchen and dining room. For cooking or baking, they're perfect for setting out ingredients and mixing eggs. For serving, they're perfect for condiments, nuts, candies, and desserts. Because they're safe in both the oven and the microwave, they're also useful for warming single servings and for children's portions. Made by a famous English pottery company in Derbyshire, the earthenware bowls contribute a historic, rustic design to 21st century kitchens. Their neutral, cane-colored exterior is called "yellow ware" after the color of the local clay. The bowls' relief design and easy-grip rims first pleased cooks and bakers more than a century ago. The bright, transparent glaze makes the bowls impervious to discoloring or absorption of flavors. What's new are interior colors--like this set's deep-sea blue--as alternatives to the traditional white. The bowls measure 4-5/8 inches in diameter and are dishwasher-safe.
