I have a real fondness for mason jars but am not into the hassle of canning at this point in my life. I have some gorgeous vintage ones from my family and was looking for a way to use them. I looked at many, many craft books that featured projects for mason jars and just wasn't really happy with any of them. Most of the projects looked cheap and a complete waste of a good, old mason jar.

Happily, this book delivers on that score. The projects in here are attractive and actually useful. I also like that you don't really need any specialty tools for this. If you're any kind of crafter or even just a homeowner, you have this stuff (drill, hot glue gun, spray paint, etc.). Some of the projects look more difficult than others but in addition to the author telling you they are, you can kind of tell just by looking what will take a little more effort. Ironically, I think my favorite is one of the easiest - the air plant terrariums.

An added bonus was that I went to check out the author's blog and ended up really loving it. So now I have even more projects that I want to do and don't have time for!

Well written, easy to understand instructions and loads of color pictures!
The projects are clever and well thought out. Supplies are easy to find and there is a go to list in the back of the book if you need help.

If you love Mason jars as much as I do, you will want this book. I've already got them all over my house in various capacities, but now I've got more creative ideas about what to do with them. The beautiful color photos and simple to understand instructions lure you into each project. They're really creative projects, too, not just repeats of what you've seen on pinterest. I am partial to the twine holder, her idea for calligraphy drink jars, placecards, a really unique advent calendar, and the adorable embroidery pattern she shares. Seriously, I don't know which one to do first!

I thought I'd seen it all when it comes to Mason Jars, but Lauren Elise Donaldson proved me wrong with her new book Mason Jar Crafts. Lauren adds a modern twist to these vintage favorites with original and inventive projects like Mason jar cake stands, a ring bearer pillow in a jar, and even a painterly Mason Jar clock. The book is filled with beautiful photographs and dozens of easy-to-follow tutorials. I'm longtime fan of Lauren's blog Lauren Elise Crafted, so I was delighted to receive a review copy of her book. I found it charming, informative, whimsical, and a definite must-have for anyone who wants to find creative ways to use mason jars for weddings, home decor, parties, and so much more!

I remember our family receiving many delicious preserves in mason jars as gifts from friends and family when I was a child. I was certainly surprised to see these glass jars gain so much popularity over the last years and the ways they are used are incredibly creative as well. I’ve even dedicated a Pinterest board to some of my favorite ideas for making things from mason jars. Mason Jar Crafts has lots of great ideas for mason jars, including in areas for home decor, parties, weddings, kids and for the holidays.

The project I’m working on right now is the rainbow twine holders and I like how the glass is tinted, but still see-through. Other projects I really like are the super simple, yet elegant vintage fork signs, so pretty at place settings. I also thought the jute wrapped succulent favors would make a great gift or party favor. Love the idea of having plants in the jars! The projects are rated in terms of difficulty and there’s a good range there. I gravitate to the simpler ones, like the really easy idea of taking a round piece of fabric and wrapping it up around the jar and tying it with a bow. Add a printable tag and it’s such a pretty gift presentation!
